Take The Pledge

If you are a blogger who has taken the pledge and linked to the site, please send me a note so I can add your support here.

I interviewed Tony Snow at the top of the program today, and Senator Norm Coleman is scheduled in hour two.

After you have taken the pledge, please call Senator McConnell's office and urge a filibuster of Senator Biden's and Senator Warner's resolutions.

Senator McConnell's office number is (202) 224-2541. The capitol switchboard is 202-225-3121. Senator McConnell's e-mail is here.

Yesterday General Petraeus testified that the Biden/Warner resolutions and those like them encourage the enemy.

What does it mean, "to encourage the enemy?"

Good move. But waistes the General's time. He really has better things to do than hold a Senator's hand and inform him about the facts of life.

Exactly...all he has to do is read what Petraeus said in the hearing yesterday when asked specifically if these resolutions can do harm.

From the Scotsman:

"...The motion is now being backed by nine Republican senators, signalling a loss of confidence by the president's own supporters."

Isn't that special..(rolling eyes). I am sure AlQeada is thrilled with the turn of events in America!

Not exactly correct. Only Hagel voted for it IN COMMITTEE - a committee that has 11 Dems and 10 Repubs = a 12-9 vote.

The concern is that more Repubs will vote for it on the floor - giving both the enemy and the MSM a lot to work with.

IMHO. This "non-binding" resolution has no other purpose.

Actually, 9 Republican Senators support one of 3 bills. I don't think they all support any one bill. After all, that would mean taking a stand.

Everyone! Sign the Pledge, pass it along to your friends!

HUGH HEWITT IS ENCOURAGING PEOPLE to pledge not to support any Republican Senator who votes to oppose the surge. There's a pledge website here.

The pledge reads:

If the United States Senate passes a resolution, non-binding or otherwise, that criticizes the commitment of additional troops to Iraq that General Petraeus has asked for and that the president has pledged, and if the Senate does so after the testimony of General Petraeus on January 23 that such a resolution will be an encouragement to the enemy, I will not contribute to any Republican senator who voted for the resolution. Further, if any Republican senator who votes for such a resolution is a candidate for re-election in 2008, I will not contribute to the National Republican Senatorial Committee unless the Chairman of that Committee, Senator Ensign, commits in writing that none of the funds of the NRSC will go to support the re-election of any senator supporting the non-binding resolution.

It will be interesting to see if this makes an impact. This is the sort of grassroots pressure that Democrats have been feeling for a while, but it's new to Republicans. I think that Hugh's right to start this drive. Opposition to the surge is wrong (see what Petraeus said) and it's also political suicide for the Republicans.

Just caught this part of your earlier post:

"Republican Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said he didn't support the resolution because he didn't believe it would affect administration policy. Instead, he said next time he talks to Tennessee soldiers he will tell them, "I oppose what you are doing but I thank you for your service."

What a putz!! Can you imagine how a soldier would feel hearing some lame politico saying something so flip?

good grief.......

Only Hagel voted for it IN COMMITTEE

Yeah, I thought that was the case. Now that it passed committee, how long is it before it is brought up before the entire Senate?

"I'll call Kit Bond's office in the morning to thank him for his support before I call the others."

That is important as well. We should call the congresscritters that are standing strong! Thanks for signing the petition.

I LOVE THAT JOKE.

That wasn't a joke, friends; that was faith...and it fits so nicely with duty, honor and country.

Thanks, I've needed that all day.

I'm in and I have another pledge for Chuck Hagel but I can't state it in mixed company.
