Lucky me. Born and raised in South Texas, I have eaten jalapeno peppers since I was a baby. I finally ate something good for me.
To: NCjim
This should have some supporting evidence in regions which traditionally have spicy foods.

Dumb Question #1
Do people with high capsaicin intake in their diet (Mexico, for example) have lower rates of cancer? This information is likely to be available.

I'd like to see this reconciled against India having some of the highest cancer rates in the world (See
http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/330/7485/215-c ) but I may be ignorant on what percentage of the Indian population eat foods with a lot of chillies. Maybe it's a myth that all Indians eat hot curries.

I remember being told (years ago) that places like Mexico had high rates of stomach cancer due to their intake of spicy food.
I have no idea if that is true. Personally, I doubt it. And for the record, I adore spicy food and I am willing to accept the consequences (if any).

If this is true, it's awesome news.
However, since this is a naturally grown substance and not something that Glaxxo-Smithkline or Pfizer conjured up in their labs, you can be sure that the US Pharmaceuticals will pressure the FDA to discredit any of this research and bury it as just another urban legend.
