He certainly wouldn't get any support in an election from Terri's freepers or the hundreds of thousands of callers to his office begging him to save her.

I think Jeb did what he could. I very much doubt he said "I have no future" in the context in which it has been reported. He clearly has a future. And probably a very lucrative and successful one, in any endeavor he chooses.
