It's another case of Murderer-Knows-Best leftists. In their arrogance, they decreed that euthanasia is better for a lost pet than life in a dog pound. They went to the animal shelters, pretended to adopt animals, then killed them and got rid of the remains in dumpsters.
>> A PETA spokeswoman, Kathy Guillermo, said PETA never wanted to get into the business of euthanizing animals. But she said the group couldn't ignore the horrible conditions in animal shelters around Norfolk and in northeastern North Carolina. The group now euthanizes thousands of animals a year.
>> "Euthanasia is a better alternative to sitting in a stinking pound," Guillermo said.
The biggest irony is, Terri Schiavo would still be alive if Judge George Greer had not violated the Pinellas County animal cruelty laws in ordering her death by dehydration / starvation. That's never permitted for a dog or cat or any other animal.
We have some feral/abandoned cats in the neighborhood, fairly wild but nice. Our neighbor caught several in a humane trap and took them to the SPCA figuring they would do right by them. One was a nursing mother and the kittens were still not caught. Needless to say they were all snuffed within hours to the horror and shock of our neighbor. I caught the kittens and we found homes for them, and then we found out we could catch the remainder, take them to a place for neutering, and bring them back to the area and release them to live as they had before but unable to reproduce. This way, they would die out naturally, rather than at the hands of the SPCA critter snuffers.
