As Rudy proved in NY, you can most certainly reduce crime--if you are willing to move in the direction of a 'police state'. No thanks.

--------------------------------------------

You're off base. Rudy's success was in enforcing existing statutes rather than ignoring them as Dinkins had. His most successful policy was to run a check on everybody stopped for a minor offense such as jumping a turnstile before releasing them. The practice swept thousands of parole and bail jumpers off the streets.

'Off base'? Oh really?

Yep, just combine enforcing existing statutes--with the phenomenal increase in technology,,,,meaning 'increased surveillance', 'data mining' of emails and internet traffic, the Patriot Act, a huge expansion in the reach and scope of the Office of Homeland Security (which would most certainly happen under Rudy)and someone who is an advocate of 'gun control' and maybe be can REALLY FINALLY BE SAFE!!! (rolling eyes)

The interesting part of my 'big brother' concerns, though, is NOT the Republicans or even Rudy. I actually trust the Republicans to use the power of the govt benevolently. However,,,,,

My concern is what happens (once you vastly expand the police powers, scope and reach of the govt) when the 'faces change'--and a democrat administration takes the White House (which WILL HAPPEN SOMEDAY).

Once that door is even opened wider than it already is (and Rudy would open it really WIDE, as he did in NY, as YOU STATED)--I shudder to think of how the power of the govt will be abused.

As Ronald Reagan so eloquently stated, "No government in world history has EVER voluntarily reduced its size". Heck, even he couldn't do it.

If Rudy gets elected, it will be without my vote.
