The reasons for the loss go beyond individual instances of corruption, terrible as they are. Unfortunately, Bush is not a conservative and abdicated leadership and even encouraged a profligate, pork-laden, wasteful, ear-marked congressional spending binge. His tax cuts will be wiped out when the biggest entitlement since LBJ fully kicks in and saddles the next generation with trillions in unfunded liability. The most amazing thing about this election is that we didn't lose more than we did!
He betrayed the conservatives (and national security) when he endorsed his no-borders amnesty program.
He waffled on issues like affirmative action in the Michigan decisions.
True, he eventually had two good Supreme Court nominees confirmed but this was only after the Harriet Miers debacle -- that made all conservatives raise such a howl of protest that he was forced to drop her.
His dismissal of Rumsfeld a day after the Republicans lost Congress is typical. So was his support of fellow-RINO Arlen Specter over conservative Toomey in the PA primary.
I could go on but the overiding point is that the party must purge itself of RINOs and time-servers and return to its conservative roots and core values - - A REAGEN REVIVAL!
At least get his name right.
By the way, your post is pretty wise, clergyman.
That, and the commercials threatening that "the terrorists are going to get us" after they've spent the past 5 years refusing to do anything substantial to secure the borders.
My Congressman, Jack Kingston, is arguably one of the more conservative (at least he talks a good game when he's interviewed on Fox News) but I was outraged not long after the Abramoff thing broke to hear Jack on local news saying that since he couldn't get a pet project into the budget, he'd just "earmark" it. He went to Washington promising fiscal responsibility.
This is the first time since 1994 I haven't voted for Jack, and I might have voted for him if I thought the race was going to be close, but it wasn't and I wanted to send a message that he needed to change his ways and get back to what he was first elected to do. Not sure it's going to happen, though, because IIRC the Contract with America guys promised they weren't going to make a career out of their service to our country.
