Outstanding.
I agree, change a few names and dates and it's perfect.
Dark mood stuff, very minor key:

The most frightening thing about the reset back to the Carter years is the geopolitical result. We are in a dangerously similar situation, and in some ways, have even fewer degrees of freedom. For example, in the late 70s, Europe was still reasonably aligned. But now? Pray for New Europe ... Old Europe is a write off.
I like our candidate who was edged out of the Cal Lt. Gov race, Tom McClintock. He is a Reaganite. He even reps near where Reagan's ranch is (Santa Barbara County).
The parallels to today are chilling, especially abandoning Vietnam, and our national honor as well. Schwarzenegger needs to get off his now-flabby ass and read this speech.
I've seen a lot of good things about McClintock.
Leaders are not only born, they're made.
In my view, the real strength of Ronaldus Maximus was his possession of a positive vision for the future with the ability to effectively communicate it and inspire others to aspire to that vision.
Perhaps he was a one in a million. But you know what, America *does* have 300 million people.
Thanks for the post.
Well, we only need ONE, but it needs to be soon!
"It took a long time and a lot of hard political work to put together the Reagan coalition. But we could sure use him now..."
And today we should be reminded that it took a disaster like Jimmy Carter to pave the way to political sanity and bring in Ronald Reagan.
Our battle today is two-fold. One from without (The Dems) and the other from within. The centrist Republicans have kicked conservatives to the curb and only chose to resurrect us with a political crumb here and there when it's time to head to the polls. This has got to change. Twice I've crawled the broken glass now, but my patience is waning.
You bet! And not only was he a dud, he could NEVER fill the shoes of DeLay. The RINOS could not play their little non-conservative games without a weak whip, and Hastert was the RINOs running dog.
Good riddance to all of them!
You're so right!
"Well, we only need ONE, but it needs to be soon!"
If I might be so bold, he or she already exists. The problem is, will he (or she) be able to rise to the point and the place where it will actually be recognized?
And what if (horror of horrors!) that person isn't a Republican? Ronaldus Maximus himself was both a union official and a Democrat earlier in his life.
It is amazing how Reagan said something 32 years ago, before he was even President, that is still true right now, tonight.
God Bless you, President Reagan.
In another recent survey, of 35,000 college and university students polled, three-fourths blame American business and industry for all of our economic and social ills. The same three-fourths think the answer is more (and virtually complete) regimentation and government control of all phases of businessincluding the imposition of wage and price controls. Yet, 80 percent in the same poll want less government interference in their own lives!
Wow...check this out honey.
It's amazing how true this is for today, almost 32 years after it was written.

Still true today.
"Let them go their way." Bump.
It was a feeling that there was not a sufficient difference now between the parties that kept a majority of the voters away from the polls. When have we ever advocated a closed-door policy? Who has ever been barred from participating?
Thank you so much for posting this Ronald Reagan's words live on. We MUST continue the fight! Very inspirational!!! God bless you.
