The girl was badly injured when a carbomb detonated (IIRC in Mosul), the US Soldier comforted her while she was still alive and tried to bring her to a hospital, but she died...
I think it fits well together with the other pictures, showing what compassion, heroism and goodness really means.
That's a Michael Yon pic and the entire point of it is that we care and the splodeydopes don't, I think it fits perfectly.
