Right Whale.......I think Iran is more of a threat; I would be most interested hearing your opinion on that subjecct.
To: John123
Actually, believe it or not, I think what happened was United States banned the shipment of oil to Japan because of their aggression in China.I still have the impression that it was metal.......however, either case presents a debate as to what constitutes an act of war......

Good evening.
"...North Korea will soon be on its knees."
I've said before that winter is coming and the North Korean people are already starving. It's going to be catastrophic for them.
If we are lucky, it'll be fatal for Kim Jong Il as well.
The Taliban in Afghanistan should let up, too. I'll bet that we don't.

Hey, you might be right about the metal. It may have been a basket of commodities. After all, Japan has little or no natural resources and everything has to be shipped in. But the point and irony of the whole thing was United States used to be the largest driller of oil...

Iran
Hmm. I think that a couple thousand years ago my ancestors, some of them, were from that part of the world. The Pres, not the little weasel but the religious Pres whatever his title is looks like what I see in my shaving mirror except he has more beard. That being said, I think Iran should back down and join the civilized world. If Iran attacks Israel with a nuke or even a long range rocket, conventional warhead launched from Iran, the threat should be eliminated immediately. Sending guerillas into Iraq and having proxies in Lebanon is not as clear a situation.

Today, Lincoln Chaffee in a press availability session said that John Bolton alienated the North Koreans and should be investigated.
Nancy Pelosi said, "This is another failure in diplomacy on behalf of the Bush administration. Bush's failed policies have led to NK acquiring a bomb."
When mentioned to her that NK cheated on its agreement with the Clinton administration, Pelosi stated that there never was an agreement. Clinton was trying to get an agreement.

That being said, I think Iran should back down and join the civilized world.....of course we hope that for any nation........I was curious as to what your opinion as to which country poses a greater threat at the present.....North Korea or Iran.

Better late than never, I can't believe it hasn't been said already.

Yea, like that stopped Russia from giving any WMD's

I don't think so, the wording gives the US the diplomatic cover to order North Korean and Iranian ships to "pull over to the side of the road and open the trunk". I suspect we will now do so. Hum NK did just that to the United States in 1968 and they still have the ship. Of course we never tried to get it back. There was this POTUS on TV making empty threats to the government NK you see. They haven't taken us serious since. Many persons have forgotten that dark period in our nations foreign policy.

"Many persons have forgotten that dark period in our nations foreign policy."
It's gonna get darker.
NK is starving it's people.
It's only chance for for survival is to blackmail the west.
Nk cant produce enough to feed it's own.
Until it's dictator Kim falls this is going to heat up.
Kim knows that the west will pay him off rather then start
a war and if he doesn't get his payoff soon he will bring us
to the brink of war.

The Gulf War I resolutions authorized us to drive the Iraqi army from Kuwait.
Pretty forceful resolution if you ask me.

You're probably right. Maybe it's time for the starving people who have ALLOWED communist rule all these years to retake control of their nation. But they need to be the ones to do it. On the other hand if NK makes a move at us we can't nuke due to the fallout on our alliances, but some MOAB's dropped on the parade grounds and leaderships homes would work. Or this going after Mr Whack Job himself. A drone, a missile, and a window of opportunity. Oh I forgot Sir Gerald the Great outlawed that. Another major foreign policy blunder.
I think Mr Whack Job see's us as weak due to our active duty numbers vs deployed. About 150,000 added back to allowed active duty Army, a sizable chunk added back to the Marines, Two more carrier groups one patrolling the Sea of Japan 24/7/356 and some more AF Fighters would make his trigger finger less itchy. Using Bambino Diplomacy {Character in the Trinity movies} of turning around hauling off and smacking an enemy senseless before they have time to react is much better than meaningless U.N. resolutions.
Our best national defense is one strong enough that it makes leaders think twice about taking us on. Such a policy should rescind the EO written by Gerald Ford on the covert taking out of such leaders. Put the Pentagon in charge of it.

"Maybe it's time for the starving people who have ALLOWED communist rule all these years to retake control of their nation."
First problem.
Most would not know what a normal nation looked like.
Rest are so afraid (Kim will kidnap and kill you even from
Japan or the U.S. (It's happened many times)).
Take back their country? They would prefer to starve.
But in the face of the starvation and poverty of his
country Kim needs his life of luxury.
To sustain his power he needs capital and the west is
or has been open to blackmail.
Now in the past this has worked.
Bun it cannot produce an economy and trade to sustain North Korea.
So more blackmail is necessary.
Kim needs to hold on to power. The only he can do that
is to blackmail the west, sell WMD to rogue nations
(like Russia did and seems to be doing again)
and keeps his citizens just on the brink.
So that leaves us two choices:
1: Pay Kim off while his citizens barely starve.
He skims of the bulk and the rest go like a welfare check to feed and clothe the rest.
2. Wait him out until he becomes so desperate he starts
a war, or sells WMD to terrorists to bankroll his dictatorship.

Aye. And that ship is still on the US Navy active list.
They moved her all the way around Korea a few years ago and we did nothing. Some rumor that they stuffed it full of explosives and put kids on it to prevent us from interfering. Not sure how true that is. But nonetheless, we did nothing.
