A fugitive gunman accused of killing a Florida sheriff’s deputy was shot 68 times by SWAT team officers who found him hiding in the woods, according to autopsy results.

Police fired 110 shots at Angilo Freeland, 27, the target of a massive manhunt in central Florida following the shooting death of Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Williams Thursday.

“That’s all the bullets we had, or we would have shot him more,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told the Orlando Sentinel newspaper.

It was Bush's fault.

I'd like to see the autopsy sketch--just to see where the majority of the shots hit.

I originally wrote, The report that the perp was hit 68 times out of 110 rounds should at least raise some eyebrows, and needs to be investigated.

You replied, "Wrong. You need to read all of the news before you post"?.

So are retracting that statement and agreeing that it needs to be investigated? Or are you saying that investigations are SOP and therefore it doesn't need to be investigated?

We agree to disagree.

You feel your loss of life is less important than a cops, I think mine should have equal standing in importance.

Police fired 110 shots

This is inexcusable. 110 shots fired at one lone cop killer and 68 hits? We need to give those cops more time at the pistol range so they get to be better shots.

If your loved one was harmed do you think the cops would react with over 100 shots. The cops reacted more like vigilantes than professionals.

I'm say that it per SOP, will be investigated and that you should know that. By calling for an investigation it sounds as though you are saying that you do not trust the normal procedures and want a further investigation by others. I may have miss inferred what you were thinking but it is what i 'heard'.

Yes, in the same physical circumstance I think they would have fired over 100 shots at the perp.

Good morning.
My all time favorite "trigger happy" cop footage is of the cops in Southern California (Compton?) standing in a circle blasting away at a bad guy in an evil SUV from a few yards away, fortunately not hitting each other or any civilians, but only wounding the guy they were shooting at.

What does the fact that many of the cops were volunteers have to do with the thread? The topic is the number of shots that were fired and why so many were.

Now they can shove a garden hose up his arse and use him for a lawn sprinkler.

Don't know the vid your talking about or circumstances surrounding it.

Another poster brought up the number of cops saying that it only happen because it was a cop killed and that it cost too much.

So at what point do they stop fearing for their life. 10 shots, 50 shots, 100 shots. Everytime they reloaded?

They did not reload. Please read the whole story and all posts before spewing stupidness. Thank you.

Hmmmmm... back of the envelope calculation says that only 61% of the shots were on-target...

Many of them would have been from full auto firearms, in which case it's darn good shooting. I've only fired a couple of magazines through an M-2 Carbine, but it was all I could do to put 2-3 rounds out of a short burst on a silhouette target at 15 yards.

Nine cops shooting. That's a little more than seven rounds per cop. Seven rounds is less than a one second burst of fire. It sounds like a judicious use of force rather than angry trigger happy cops emptying their magazines.

Using your logic, if 100 cops fired 1 round each that would be OK? The perp would still have 60+ bullets in him. Or should only 1 out of 10 cops fire. What's your policy, chief?

The perp was African American

I though he was Jamaican? He was apparently of African ancestry, but that doesn't make him any kind of American.

I don't know (haven't seen) that any were from full autos. But in any case the perp was moving (from impacts if nothing else) and there was a lot of heavey brush that will deflect rounds. In any case not bad shooting.

Seems you missed the point of the whole story.

“That’s all the bullets we had, or we would have shot him more,”

Are you telling me NO ONE reloaded. It's fairly clear to me if they had more bullets the would have used them.

, there were 10 cops there and 9 fired.

Why shoot, that's only a bit over 12 rounds per shooter, not even a full magazine. And only about 7 1/2 hits per shooter too.
