Sept. 11's Las Vegas connection a mystery
LAS VEGAS, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Five years after the U.S. terror attacks by al-Qaida members, why all four pilots who hijacked the airplanes visited Las Vegas remains a mystery, CBS reports.
Investigators who worked at unraveling the attacks, and those still on the case say it's also a mystery as to what the men did while in Las Vegas. They weren't seen by anyone, which is difficult in a city with so many closed-circuit security cameras.
Dale Watson, who ran counterterrorism for the FBI and led the original investigation, told CBS he's concerned there could still be operatives in Las Vegas awaiting further orders.
On his first of two trips to the city, hijacker Muhammad Atta drove a rental car 110 miles in two days, but there's no indication of where he went or who he met, Watson said.

Police Seek Explosives From UNL Chemistry Class Members
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Police are trying to recover some explosives from University of Nebraska-Lincoln chemistry students that police said were given to them by their professor last week.
Police said witnesses in the class reported that UNL professor John Belot Jr. passed around a paper sack of explosives, each about the size of a roll of quarters. It seems some students may have taken some of the explosives with them.(snip)

Port Of L.A. Re-Opened After Bomb Threat Determined To Be A Hoax
SAN PEDRO, September 11, 2006 - Authorities carried out a major search at Pier 300 in the Port of Los Angeles
today after receiving an anonymous bomb threat later determined to have been a hoax, the Coast Guard reported.

The object is being consumed which may be why it was drawn in as "ghostly" a manner as Bin Laden's image to the right. There is also no "bottom" (grounding) to the lower left image. One possible reason someone back then chose a spectroheliographic image to depict the sun is because it closely resembles the image of a detonation in its first few milliseconds.
