What this AP article fails to mention is that ECUSA(Episcopalians) has been losing members. At one time, IIRC, they had over 3 million members, so they have basically lost a 1/3rd of their membership, as have other old "mainline" Protestant churches have lost memebership such as Methodists and Presbyterians and all due to, IMO, new "liberal" theology.
As a counterbalance the Catholic Church and Protestant Evangelical congregations have been gaining memebers.
JMO, Episcopalian Rev. Murdoch sees the future and it is not in following Episcopalian Bishop V. Gene Robinson, despite the liberal MSM's hopes.

Maybe these Episcopalians should be on the move TO Mass rather than IN Mass(achusetts).
A relationship with Gordon-Conwell is a start. After all, that place, a former Catholic minor seminary, produced Scott Hahn, Robert Sungenis (I think), Gerry Matatics, and Steve Wood (all Catholic converts) when it was a Protestant seminary.

Isn't conservative Episcopalian an oxymoron?

That's a lot of members to lose. I hope those are people who haven't lost faith, just moved to a more mainstream church. In Europe the membership has been declining as faith plays a much smaller role in the lives of Europeans. I'd hate to see the US move in that direction.

It's a lot worse than you indicate. If you look at average Sunday attendance it's only about 800,000 (2004)
My guess is that it will fall a lot faster now after the General Convention 2006.

In the Houston area a ECUSA church lost over 90% of its members over gays. They moved virtually in mass to the Roman Catholic Church.

Conservative Episcopalian? No such animal. Not when they promote homosexuals to lead their morality.

As a counterbalance the Catholic Church and Protestant Evangelical congregations have been gaining memebers. Count me in that number. I was raised Episcopal but have returned to Mother Rome. You would not believe the number of people at the bishop's Rite of Election. The cathedral was filled to the rafters.

The problem with the Episcopal Church is the episcopate...the bishops. We would be fine if we were Christians who lived and worshipped in the Anglican way.

I believe membership is less than 1 million in the ECUSA. Orthodox Anglican membership is growing in the USA and other folks are joining Anglican Mission (AMiA) churches.

what the TEC know is that Sunday attendence at liberal churchs averages less than 80 while in conservative churches the number is over 200. At Christ Church Plano Tx they have more in church on Sunday that the diocease that is the home of the new Presiding Bishop. If one man one vote was the rule in church like it is in the congress there would be many fewer liberal bishops.
