Mammoths may roam again after 27,000 years

BODIES of extinct Ice Age mammals, such as woolly mammoths, that have been frozen in permafrost for thousands of years may contain viable sperm that could be used to bring them back from the dead, scientists said yesterday.

Research has indicated that mammalian sperm can survive being frozen for much longer than was previously thought, suggesting that it could potentially be recovered from species that have died out.

Several well-preserved mammoth carcasses have been found in the permafrost of Siberia, and scientists estimate that there could be millions more.

Last year a Canadian team demonstrated that it was possible to extract DNA from the specimens, and announced the sequencing of about 1 per cent of the genome of a mammoth that died about 27,000 years ago.

" So man and mammoth walked the earth together, wow, Dawin must be rolling over in his grave.
"

That's just silly. Human beings and mammoths lived together for a long time. Human beings killed mammoths for food.

When the last mammoth died is not know. It could have been as little as a few thousand years ago.

Again, it's best to use facts if you're going to discuss evolutionary theory.

I'm not sure whether this "sitting judge in Alabama" is A) an honest and earnest idiot, 2) delusional, or III) a parody/troll.

Or 4) Roy Moore.

Perhaps he hasn't updated the "sitting" part in a couple years.

This project is long anticipated. The greenies want to introduce mammoths into the wild because e-e-e-vil humans extirpated them and they would do a dandy job of making the wild unliveable.

Or 4) Roy Moore.

Possible. He always seemed more coherent than this, but he had clerks working for him then.

OK...but for what purpose? Is there a big demand for Mammoths out there?

One Mammoth, the worlds largest rib-fest!

Will these clones have any natural immunity to AIDS?

They wear very large condoms.

As I recall, the tour guide said the last mammoths roamed the earth about 12,000 years ago.

And if a tour guide said it, it's true.

As long as they keep their Hershey Highway away from Magic Johnson, they will do fine.

The passenger pigeon and the Carolina parakeet were around long enough for my grandfather to see them.

I've been around long enough to see my grandfather. (one of them anyway)

Which is when the Indians showed up. There are even rumors that our early settlers found a few.

I don't believe that I have ever seen anyone say anywhere at any time that mammoths were in existance billions of years ago. That claim has never even been made for dinosaurs.

i wonder how would Cindy Sheehan react if the remaining attention she has gets snatched by the news about cloned mammoths.

Simple.

Mammoth=Hairy elephant
Hairy=bushy
Elephant=Republican
Republican=Bush

Therfore Mammoth=Bush's fault™

At the level heisenberg comes into play and they might not be exinct at all, they might be like Bob the dinosaur, hiding behind the furniture.

How creationist loose in court is beyond me.

CREATIONIST LOOSE IN COURT FINE. HOW YOU?

(Background: In one of the great Hollywood legends, a reporter sent an urgent telegram to Cary Grant's publicist, asking for the actor's age for a story. "HOW OLD CARY GRANT?" the telegram asked.

Grant happened to be in the publicist's office when the telegram arrived, and he shot back "OLD CARY GRANT FINE, HOW YOU?")

Or Schroedinger comes into play, and they are both dead and alive.
