Major cellphone outage reported in New York

New York police reported a major outage of cellular phone service in the borough of Queens on Thursday.

"It's just an FYI. It has nothing to do with anything else. It's not criminal," a police spokesman said.

Two of New York's major airports -- JFK and LaGuardia -- are in the borough of Queens. Airport security was intensified after British police said they had foiled a plot to blow up several aircraft flying between Britain and the United States.

I'll be coming home from an assignment in Germany next summer and have been toying with coming back into the US through New York.

Nowhere else in the country is the combination of multi-generation America (some of it in million dollar neighborhoods) and first generation - on their way up fast - displayed side-by-side in such numbers. Chumley's - that's the one on all the maps. Did you know that Pete's Tavern ran a back room speak that was entered through the refrigerated room of the flower shop next door? That's where my Grandfather celebrated things.
