'Plot to blow up planes' foiled [UK TERROR THREAT LEVEL RAISED TO IMMINENT{U.S.raised terror level)

A major terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight has been disrupted by police, Scotland Yard says.
It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board aircraft in hand luggage.
During the night, police arrested a number of people in London after a counter-terrorist operation they said had lasted several months.
Police believe the attacks would have been particularly targeted at flights from the UK to the US.
The Department for Transport said security at all UK airports has been increased.
Passengers on all flights will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK.
Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.

David Asman just said we're at the highest level (red, I guess) for commercial flights to/from the US to the UK. The general threat level hasn't been raised.

He went down on Memorial Day with four officers and one enlisted on board. He volunteered for the mission. Wake up America...who did he die for?He died for freedom, he died for my family (and the rest of this country whether they get it or not) to live in peace and I will never forget that. I hope that one day the ones that don't get it will finally realize it because these damn fools want us ALL DEAD.

I saw some screeners telling a guy to take a swig of a bottled drink or else to toss it back in 2003 either in Tampa's airport or in Cincinatti's; I don't remember which. At the time they were feeling up my shoes. I didn't notice them making people do the drinkitordumpit at every airport but then, it seems as if most people were already in the habit of throwing away drinks before boarding and he was just the exception.
