Iran is one of Israel's principal enemies. Iran is very open about the material and techical support they givve Hezbollah, whom these current operations were targeting. Iran has men on the ground in Lebannon. Iran has threatened recently to annihilate Israel. Iran has, and the IDF is well aware of it, had these C-802 anti-shipping missiles for some time.
One would think they would have been prepared for just this contigency with the most sophisticated ship they have that was designed precisely to defend against that type of threat.
It just does not add up to me.
Interesting that the Israel Navy uses the terms sergeant instead of petty officer or seaman.
It just does not add up to me.
My guess is that they were just not expecting that type of attack coming at them from the enemy.
A suicide speedboat or perhaps a single engine plane packed with explosives, were probably what they were looking for.
They proably thought that turning the defensive systems on to protect against a sophisticated missle was a greater risk to engaging friendly forces by accident than the possibility of stopping an enemy attack.
Guess it's a lesson learned...
as soon as the 'first shot is fired'----s--t happens in all wars----thankfully it did not sink the ship and gave the Israelis notice of the eqipment the enemy had---they will not make a mistake again
