Unbelievable. Anti-2nd Amendment, pro-abortion on demand, and gay marriage supporter and most of the comments on this thread are supportive for Rudy as POTUS??? If the standards aren't higher for POTUS than this we're doomed.
How is Rudy on illegal immigration? Last I heard he likes the senate amnesty bill. Just great!

Actually, Lincoln was a libertarian

Actually he wasn't. The Democrats of the day were the small Govt. anti everything party. Lincoln was for the Feds doing everything from building a transcontinetal railway to paying for local infastructure improvements. Homestead Act, an a whole bunch of other expansions of the size and scope of the Fed Govt. To put him in terms of todays political debate, he would be a Moderate to Conservative Democrat.

I highly recommend that you read Andrew Napalitano's new book, The Constitution In Exile.

He says pretty much the same thing. Lincoln was a disastrous President. A significant number of our current problems originated with the Lincoln Administration.

I won't becuase I couldn't support a GOP NOMINEE that has the same views as Shillery basically, but has and "(R)" after their name: Both Guiliani and McKerry has that qualification: No Thanks, I'll stick to my principles and vote Conservative over the liberals "R" (in more ways than one..

As many independents and MANY quasi-Democrats would flock into the polls to vote for him.

That ought to tell you all you need to know. If you put together a profile of the guy that included all of his accomplishments and the public positions he's taken and showed it to people without telling them who he was, they'd swear he was a Democrat.

The last thing the GOP needs is a Democrat at the top of its ticket in a presidential campaign. This is starting to remind me of the ridiculous scenario that unfolded during the 2004 campaign, when it was learned that Kerry's campaign was so desperate for something to prop up their candidate that they tried to get a Republican as his running mate.

I doubt anybody would particularly notice the sucking sound.

So we have a differenct opinion. Fine. Where do y'all think the Limbaugh / Hannity / Levin...axis will come down on this? What they think certainly influences a lot of opinions. To say nothing of what is left of the Religious Right - Falwell / Colson / Robertson (ugh) / Land et al.

I think that the life issues are returning to center stage; and if the Republicans nominate anyone perceived as wobbly on this, they are digging their own grave.

George Allen is the ideal candidate for a White House campaign. Not because of his partisan credentials or his position on one issue or another, but because he comes across as so marginal and plain -- and has a nice, simple American-sounding name, too.

Silly as this may seem, this is exactly the kind of candidate who wins presidential elections.

Well that's we we have to CAREFULLY examine each's record, and determine the best nominee..but I do have to say that despite immigration, and even that isn't (100%) terrible Mike Pence has a pretty solid credentials in the HOR! I'll have to weigh each nominee as the election gets neerer, but as I see it Mike Pence and maybe 1 other are the only GOP national figures with solid Reagainite-Goldwater-1994 GOP Credentials..

Maybe there's a good Republican candidate

Gov. Owens: Colorado Can't Wait for Federal Government to Stop Illegal Immigrants

Wednesday, July 05, 2006
DENVER — Colorado should not wait for the federal government to stop illegal immigration but should implement its own plans, Gov. Bill Owens said Wednesday.

The Republican governor told the Joint Budget Committee, which held hearings Wednesday to discuss the cost of illegal immigration, that Colorado spends about $560 million a year supporting illegal immigrants and their U.S.-born children, who become legal citizens.

He said the cost falls most heavily on local governments and the federal government is doing little to help.

"I wish the federal government were a better ally," said Owens, who has been a strong supporter of President Bush.

Owens told lawmakers the state could sharply reduce the number of illegal immigrants in Colorado by setting up a secure identification system, requiring job applicants to present a driver's license or identity card before they could get a job.

Owens had already called the Legislature into a special session, which opens Thursday, in part to consider an immigration measure.

The (Colorado) Supreme Court last month disqualified a petition initiative for the November ballot that would have asked voters to cut off most state services to people who are in the country illegally.

The court said the petition illegally addressed more than one subject. Owens wants lawmakers to place the issue on the ballot directly to avoid the court's objection.

I'd like to hear more about this man instead of retread lamestream media inspired candidates like Rudy, McInsane and Rino Romney.

George Allen is a dork. He might win a primary, but he would never win a general.

Colonel, I know all about Abe. My point was that whole threads should be devoted to this subject. Start one. That book you mention would be a great start.

I like threads which actually stay on topic as originally posted.

"Anti-2nd Amendment, pro-abortion on demand, and gay marriage supporter and most of the comments on this thread are supportive for Rudy as POTUS??? If the standards aren't higher for POTUS than this we're doomed."

Why can't people see that? Rudolph Giuliani is closer to Hillary Clinton than to Ronald W. Reagan.
