Rudy for president?

Well-connected public figures report that they have been told recently by Rudolph Giuliani that, as of now, he intends to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.

The former mayor of New York was on top of last month's national Gallup poll measuring presidential preferences by registered Republicans, with 29 percent. Sen. John McCain's 24 percent was second, with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich third at 8 percent. National polls all year have shown Giuliani running either first or second to McCain, with the rest of the presidential possibilities far behind.

Republican insiders respond to these numbers by saying rank-and-file GOP voters will abandon Giuliani once they realize his position on abortion, gay rights and gun control. Party strategists calculate that if he actually runs, he must change on at least one of these issues.

I strongly support Rudy because I live in New York, and have actually seen him tackle some of the toughest issues that can face any elected official, solve those problems, and govern very effectively.

Name three.

...all of which he supports wholeheartedly. Not to mention illegal immigration, which he also supports. Needless to say, I won't vote for him should he get the nomination. Keeping Hillary out of office is pointless if you elect someone just as bad.

"War on Terror is getting to be old news and wearing quite thin as an issue"

Huh?
We just caught(just last week) a bunch of Islamofacits plotting to blow up the PATH train between New York and New Jersey, while it was still under the Hudson, drowning thousands of commuters from New Jersey and New Yorkers.

I think you are living in an alternate world. Time to get back to the real world.

What you are reading are comments by Republicans as opposed to those of conservatives........

I have come to believe that "conservatives" have a hidden anti-republican agenda.

"...all of which he supports wholeheartedly. Not to mention illegal immigration, which he also supports"

If by "gay rights" you mean the right of gays, not be imprisoned or shot or lose their jobs for being gay, you'll find that practically every candidate for 2008 supports that.
Even President Bush supports that.
Gay marriage is another thing altogether.
Rudy doesn't support gay marriage.

And Rudy just gave a speech strongly advocating securing our border with Mexico.
He is probably going to be a heck of a lot more hard core on securing our Mexican border than President Bush is, if what Rudy did against crime in New York is anything to go by.

"Name three."

Why don't you do some of your own work for a change?
What Rudy did in New York have been posted at FR over and over again.
You don't even have to go to an Internet search, just go through past Rudy threads right here at FR.

And what leads you to believe this?

You can start turning your clock backwards.
Rudy's achievements have been listed already, over and over again.
It's not anyone's fault, you can't read, or are retarded is it?

I have an overt anti-liberal agenda. It only appears as an anti-republican agenda to the extent that the republican party embraces liberal ideology.

Rudy is a former democrat who still embraces liberal ideology, and hence he is a political enemy. Pretty simple, actually.

“I’m pro-choice. I’m pro-gay rights,” Giuliani said. He was then asked whether he supports a ban on what critics call partial-birth abortions. “No, I have not supported that, and I don’t see my position on that changing,” he responded.

Unlike John Adams, Jefferson disagreed, as I wrote, with Judicial Review. Jefferson lamented Judicial Review. Jefferson spoke and wrote against Judicial Review.

But Jefferson, as every President since, accepted the Judicial Review principle that the Supreme Court is the final word.

You and all that believe as you do can go write PhD thesis and Law Review articles on why Judicial Review is unConstitutional

Scholars such as yourself may think the US went off the rails in 1803, but I think it's done pretty well. And fool that I am, I also accept reality. I accept that the Sun rises in the East and that Judicial Review is an unassailable and settled principle that governs the United States.

Some can cry that the Court gave abortion Constitutional protection and some can cry that the Court made George W Bush President. But all rational people accept that the Court decided the respective issues and their word was final.

And maybe at the end it is why we choose to support different candidates.

I want a President who will deal with the real crucial issues that effect the country. I look for proven success and achievements.

You seek a candidate who will- with the "correct" magic words on issues such as guns, gays, and abortion- keep your fantasy alive of a country you will never know in reality and actually never really existed.

Here's a pop quiz: What do John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, George Pataki, and Chuck Hagel have in common?

1. They're all Republicans.
2. They're all frontrunners for a major-party 2008 presidential nomination.
3. They all oppose the Federal Marriage Amendment.

While I disagree with the characterization of Hegel and Pataki as frontrunners for the nomination, the characterization of their positions is correct.

You've made a statement exalting Giuliani's exploits as mayor then the onus is on you, not me, to provide the evidence.
You could not, or refused to, do so.

Giuliani's spokesperson did not return calls seeking comment. But Giuliani's sympathies have been no secret. During his administration, gays and lesbians in New York pressed for domestic-partnership rights. Giuliani in turn pushed the city's Democratic-controlled City Council, which had avoided the issue for years, to finally pass legislation providing broad protection for same-sex partners. In 1998, he codified local law by granting all city employees equal benefits for their domestic partners. Giuliani also had gays and lesbians serve openly in his administration, and when he divorced from his wife in 2000, he moved temporarily into the apartment of a wealthy gay couple.

"You can't get much more to the left than Giuliani was on gay issues," says Mercurio.

"You've made a statement exalting Giuliani's exploits as mayor then the onus is on you, not me, to provide the evidence."

The evidence has been produced on Rudy threads right here at FR over and over again.
I am not going to bother to do that yet again, whenever the same guys that have already been supplied the evidence in a previous Rudy threads, pop up on another Rudy thread and ask the same dumb questions yet again.
It's pointless and lazy. And its done for mischief.

You're remarks are flippant. Just admit you know not a damn thing of what TJ stood for.
You support Giuliani because of, not in spite of, his liberal views. Is it too hard for you to be honest and admit it?

3. They all oppose the Federal Marriage Amendment.

And Bush supports it, especially when his base is upset with him.

And his support had zero effect. Zero.

So don't pick a President on how he will handle North Korea or Iran. Pick a President who will patronize you by also supporting the Amendment. And whose support will also be worth Zero.
