Rudy for president?

Well-connected public figures report that they have been told recently by Rudolph Giuliani that, as of now, he intends to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.

The former mayor of New York was on top of last month's national Gallup poll measuring presidential preferences by registered Republicans, with 29 percent. Sen. John McCain's 24 percent was second, with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich third at 8 percent. National polls all year have shown Giuliani running either first or second to McCain, with the rest of the presidential possibilities far behind.

Republican insiders respond to these numbers by saying rank-and-file GOP voters will abandon Giuliani once they realize his position on abortion, gay rights and gun control. Party strategists calculate that if he actually runs, he must change on at least one of these issues.

Rudy is a true leader. He is liberal on things that don't matter a lot for a President, and conservative on things that do. Go Rudy!

RIGHT ON THE MONEY - RIGHT ON THE MONEY !!!!!!!!!

GO RUDY.......................

I personally feel that McCain is a bit unstable and would be more worried with his finger on the trigger than the picks for the USSC he would make.

True conservatives may not agree with Rudy's social positions, but it is wishful thinking to believe he has no chance. You look at any poll of Republicans only regarding 2008 and you find 70% of respondents name Rudy or McCain as their favorite. Do you really think those who want McCain would not vote for Rudy? I don't think so. The other 30 percent is probably not enough to be able to nominate a guy like Allen.

You know Kerik has had some issues but he did a great job as Chief of Police in NY.

Baloney. A police commissioner (not "chief") by definition cannot be "doing a great job" if he is breaking the law while serving as police commissioner. That mindset is very typical of urban Democratic sh!t-holes, which goes a long way toward explaining why they are sh!t-holes to begin with.

It was former police commissioner William Bratton and his cadre of deputy commissioners who deserves the most credit for sharply reducing crime in New York City. Crime was no longer a serious issue in the city by the time Kerik came around.

I remember MANY people after four years of Bill Clinton saying things just like that. Then we got four more years of him.

The Republican party did a stupid thing. They nominated Bob Dole, the tax collector for the welfare state because it was HIS TURN. A uninspiring funeral director type against a gregarius life of the party type man.

Now we're about to make the same type of mistake. Hillary!, a power hungry, hard core, baby killing socialist and feminazi against Rudy, a hard core, gun grabbing, baby killing egotist.

The only difference between the two is that Rudy looks better than Hillary! in a dress.

Well, that settles it - - Gotti Jr. in '08!

"I have always thought that one of the phoniest claims in California politics is that 'I'm a fiscal conservative but a social liberal,' which always invites the question: 'How do you plan to pay for your socially liberal programs with your fiscally conservative policies?"

Socially liberal programs? What the hell are that? Social liberalism means government disengagement from particular subjects, like abortion. No payment involved.

Like I said, forgiveness is a great human quality. Its not like I'm recommending him for Homeland Security Sec or anything.

Kerik provided leadership for the city of NY during a terrible crisis and for that he should be applauded.

"Well comare the picks that Rudy would make vs. a Democrat."

Let's see:

Giuliani: Kennedy and O'Connor
Clinton/Kerry/Biden/whoever: Breyer and Ginsburg

Is there a 'none of the above' option here?

I carefully said "fomented" for a reason.

Lincoln resupplied Fort Sumter, despite warnings not to do so. The garrison at Sumter was in place to discourage imports into the port of Charleston, which was a provocation for war.

Lincoln had plenty of chances to make peace with the South, both before and during the war. He ignored all overtures.

I know my history. Respectfully, perhaps it is you who should venture out beyond the simple public school revisionism of American history.

Lincoln, in his time, was for more government intervention than the Democrats were. However, I think it would be unfair to call him a moderate or conservative Democrat in today's terms. The Democrats might have been more anti-government, but that doesn't make Lincoln a Democrat in today's terms. He knew the wisdom of limited government infringement upon the liberties of man.

Like I stated up earlier in the thread... I'd be more worried about McCain and his finger on trigger than I would be about USSC picks.

By failing to run for NY Governor or NY Senator, Rudy has ended his chances of being President.

As they say, "If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere..."

Had you guys not been around in '92, and bought into the Perot BS

Actually, Bush supporters should have voted for Perot. Had they not been around, Perot would have been elected.

I doubt Rudy would offer up judges with strong conservative roots.
