Thirty-six percent (36%) of Americans Approve of the way that George W. Bush is performing his role as President. Just 15% Strongly Approve. Those are the lowest levels ever measured by Rasmussen Reports. Just 65% of Republicans approve of the President's Job Performance, also a new low.
This data is based upon nightly telephone surveys and reported on a three-day rolling average basis. For today's update, more than 75% of respondents were interviewed after the President Bush's speech on immigration.
Just 39% of voters agree with the President's approach on immigration. Most consider the issue very important and believe that strict enforcement of immigration laws will help the economy.
Democrats now hold a 15-percentage point lead over Republicans on the Generic Congressional Ballot. Before the Presdent's speech, they had a 10-point lead. Just 27% of Americans believe the country is now heading in the right direction.
While the President's numbers have fallen, Hillary Clinton's poll numbers are the best they've been in more than a year of Hillary Meter polling by Rasmussen Reports. Another Democrat doing well is Ted Strickland. He maintains a double digit lead in his effort to become the first Democratic Governor of Ohio in 16 years.
Also in Ohio. Congressman Sherrod Brown (D) leads incumbent Senator Mike DeWine (R) by three percentage points. Though within the poll's margin of error, it's the first time Brown has had a lead of any sort.
Montana Senator Conrad Burns (R) once again trails both Democrats seeking his job. Dragged down by his association with convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff, Burns' poll numbers are worse than those for a relatively unknown GOP challenger.
Washington Senator Maria Cantwell (D) has been on the defensive lately and her lead has shrunk to five percentage points. When the year began, she was up by 15.

"Team Bush need to do their polling south of the border where his numbers are probably sky high."
Not really. The Mexicans hate him too. When you try to please everyone, you end up with nothing but contempt.
Also in Ohio. Congressman Sherrod Brown (D) leads incumbent Senator Mike DeWine (R) by three percentage points.
No way in hell is this right. De wine is probably up by 3 and blackwell is down 1 or 2.
Yep. He has nobody to blame but himself and his strange maneuvers in the last year. Increasingky, it appears the popular liberal depiction of Dubya as arrogant, unduly secretive, and at times dimwitted has some accuracy. :-)
He's stuck and there really is no recovering. My hope is that he doesn't let it affect the war with the islamofascists and while at one time I would scoff at such a notion, I no longer do.
No I want a massive effort to punish as many as possible, starting with the high profile ones and trickling down to the smaller ones. Then it could work. No one complains about the cost of punishing businesses and citizens for cheating on their tax returns, why the beef with the logistics in this case?
LOL...no kidding.
one good out of bad will be pombo losing his chair
What Bush & Co. don't seem to understand is that you can't work to build support in the mushy middle, and much less from your sworn, eternal enemies, unless you have a firm hold on your base. They used to have a really good sense of that, but for some inexplicable reason they've flushed it all over this amnesty obsession. Meanwhile, they cannot restore the support of the conservative base when they're more focused on appeasing the sworn, eternal enemies on the Teddy Kennedy left.
George Ryan, the convicted Republican Governor of IL, had approval ratings in the 20%-25%. Ryan's dismal ratings were due to criminal activity.
It is really bad when a relatviely scandal free politican is trending toward the same approval ratings as a criminal.
You joking? Anybody living in America over the age of 30 should be well aware that republicans were backbenchers for the 50 years preceding 1994.
Those businesses are pretty much the only force supporting the amnesty plan, and they have clout.
End their free handouts. Stop any tax payer paid social program for illegals. In Mexico, at least they'd be able to work and eat.
Then, they can come back the right way.
In order to change an undesirable behavior, the punishment has to be immediate and severe enough to equal the crime.
The majority of illegal immigrants are hired by small businesses like gas station, restaurants, small construction firms etc... I am sure you have seen some illegal immigrants working in your area so do what you are advocating and report them as well as those who hire them, it is that simple isn't?
If he would take the rudder and govern as a conservative, he can turn this around.
yep. got a problem with that?
No I am not joking. I have enjoyed so many posts that insists the polls are wildly off and that Dubya has broad public support. Whatever their age, too many Freepers have a hard time accepting that the american public can reject the GOP.
No he can't. President Bush's biggest problem is President Bush. He will stick to his principle on compassionate treatment of illegals and it will sink him. His Achilles Heel so to speak is his compassion, it overrides the oath he took. And that's where he loses me sad to say.
No. They will end up on the streets unemployed and angry. How do you propose to round them all up? Trucks? Railways? Buses? And, what kind of military presence will we need to have on our streets to stop the violence? How many Freepers know of employers who are hiring illegals? How many have called their local public safety folks? Besides ranting on this web site what are you doing to solve the problem?
Anything is possible if we have the will.
