Republican Right Abandoning Bush

WASHINGTON - Angry conservatives are driving the approval ratings of President Bush and the GOP-led Congress to dismal new lows, according to an AP-Ipsos poll that underscores why Republicans fear an Election Day massacre.

Six months out, the intensity of opposition to Bush and Congress has risen sharply, along with the percentage of Americans who believe the nation is on the wrong track.

The AP-Ipsos poll also suggests that Democratic voters are far more motivated than Republicans. Elections in the middle of a president’s term traditionally favor the party whose core supporters are the most energized.

Excellent post.

I suppose in the future we will see bumper stickers reading "Don't blame ME for Hillarycare, liberals on the SCOTUS, tax hikes, a WOT on the cheap, Kyoto 2--I voted against Bush, not for the Dems!" from every fool who thinks it matters HOW the Dems get back in power, not that they WILL get back into power.

I've always believed Harriet Miers was a ploy in order to get everyone to beat up on her then when Roberts get there everyone would be tired out and unable to land any real blows to him.

Yeah, and I have to say surprising. There's a lot of "The Rove Machine will cheat their way to victory in November" stuff over there. I hope they keep it up--may the least-depressed party win!

Oops. Swing and a miss. I think I covered that point earlier though.

Illegals have been streaming across our borders for decades. I take current events to be more of a conservative grass roots failure in allowing the debate to be couched in terms of "immigrants" rather than "criminal aliens".

I am not talking about rewarding anyone. At this point a person has to use some common sense. You let the Dems get in and LIBERTY will be a thing of the past period.

I, for one, will not vote to re-elect him.

If that means I skip a vote of go third party so be it.

I'm definitely not happy with the way things are going in the Republican party, but sitting out or third party voting is not the answer.

Things could be a lot lot worse. But that dose not mean we do not need to hold our leaders accountable. That dose not mean we do not strive to do better. This is America for Pete's sake, I thought we always strive for better not just eh it could be worse. As far as the WOT goes he has been great, though I am starting to worry about his handling of Iran. This is a definite case for Preemption.

I left the party in 2003. I am a conservative independent. And like I said I will happily vote and support conservatives. As for liberals regardless of of party I will do neither.

Bush is not running....these same polls that have shown the public general and republicans unhappy with the leadership, also have shown people happy with their own representatives.

They're just unhappy with everyone else. Since this isn't a presidential election....who are they voting out?

I think you missed your last dosage.

I don't need you lecturing me about the importance of the WOT. Anyone who has seen my posts on FR knows exactly where I stand on that issue.

I can't imagine how anyone could think we will be able to continue to prosecute 2 wars at the same time on the other side of the globe while continuing to spend on education

and the elderly

As if money were no object.

And, God help me, that is what this country needs if we are going to continue as a country.

Yes, Republicans are hungry for a really strong, conservative leader.

....third party voting is not the answer.

Absolutely right. You will usually end up with the worst of the choices in that scenario, as we did in '92. Still, I am suprised we haven't had a Libertarian plug posted, yet. I guess they're still sleeping.
