You aren't going to significantly cut demand overnight, or even over a year. But you have to start somewhere. Gasoline consumption in March fell 0.6% year on year. SUV sales are off for the first time in years. Car shoppers care about mileage again for the first time in 25 years. It's a good start.
Yes, it is a start, but what I am saying is the demand will not go up significantly if the taxes were dropped. The problem would be that we would get stiffed anyway because the gov would drop incentives to the gas companies and we would pay the cost increase. Same old, same old. We need to drop regs and let the market find it's place when drilling, new refineries and increased production(not to mention lessing dependence on people who hate us)settle in.
