U.S. ATTACK ON IRAN MULLED FOR SUMMER

LONDON [MENL] -- Western powers envision a military option against Iran in the fall of 2006.
Western defense sources and analysts said Britain and the United States were preparing for the prospect of air strikes against Iran in late 2006. They said both London and Washington agreed to complete a diplomatic effort at the United Nations Security Council before they seriously consider plans to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities.
"In just the past few weeks I've been convinced that at least some in the administration have already made up their minds that they would like to launch a military strike against Iran," Joseph Cirincione, director of the Washington-based Non-Proliferation Project at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, said.
On Tuesday, Iran was expected to announce a major development in its nuclear program. Iranian sources said Teheran was expected to announce that Iran had enriched uranium to the 3.5 percent level required to produce fuel to operate nuclear power reactors.

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) -- Police were guarding the Queen Elizabeth 2 luxury liner Wednesday after the ship's owner and British authorities reported an unspecified threat against the ship.
Officers in boats and on land watched the QE2 as it docked in the north Egyptian port of Alexandria for the day. Passengers were allowed to disembark for sightseeing.
The ship's owners, Cunard Line, and Britain's Transport Department said in separate statements Tuesday they had received "information concerning the security" of the vessel.
"We believe there is no cause for alarm," Cunard spokeswoman Julie Benson said. "We treat all such information very seriously and the United Kingdom, United States and Egyptian security authorities have been kept fully informed."
Police boats followed the QE2 as it sailed north through the Suez Canal on Tuesday.

NOGALES, Mexico (AP) -- At a shelter overflowing with migrants airing their blistered feet, Francisco Ramirez nursed muscles sore from trekking through the Arizona desert - a trip that failed when his wife did not have the strength to go on.
He said the couple would rest for a few days, then try again, a plan echoed by dozens reclining on rickety bunk beds and carpets tossed on the floor after risking violent bandits and the harsh desert in unsuccessful attempts to get into the United States.
The shelter's manager, Francisco Loureiro, said he has not seen such a rush of migrants since 1986, when the United States allowed 2.6 million illegal residents to get American citizenship....
Of course they are rushing to the borders in record numbers....after seeing and hearing about hundreds of thousands of their buddies marching and making demands while reaping the rewards of welfare, healthcare, education, et. al. With no fear that the U.S. can or will utilize the current laws to track and return the illegals to their home country. It is a win-win situation for these people. I would bet Vincente is filling some of the buses himself, and then unloading them a few miles from the border.

The transcript of Flight 93’s voice recorder has been released by Findlaw in PDF form: United Airlines Flight #93 Cockpit Voice Recorder Transcript. It’s absolutely chilling, but also inspiring to finally see an unedited picture of what happened aboard that plane. The transcript leaves no doubt that there was a furious struggle going on for control of Flight 93 up until the final seconds in Pennsylvania—and no doubt that those heroic passengers, who battled to the very end, prevented the 9/11 attacks from being even more devastating.
