I can stomach anti-Pat Buchanan threads, understanding that even committed Republicans are prone to 50 years influence of communist elements within our country.
If FReepers seriously start questioning William F. Buckley with such infantile criticism as "HE'S OLD", then I will say goodbye to this liberal piece of crap website.

I agree with you. Conservatives can be just as hypocritical and close-minded as liberals, and sometimes more. If Buckley wrote a column praising the President, he would be applauded, but because he disagrees, he is labeled as old and senial.
If you disagree with his points, fine, but why get personal? Incase you have not noticed, Pres. Bush is not exactly a young man either. William Buckley is still smarter than 95%-100% of everybody on this forum even at his age. Disagree with his points if you want, but leave the childish attacks out of it.

It's more about Republicanism than Conservatism.

Buckley is wrong here, but that takes away nothing from his illustrious career. He was, after all, one who in 1955 stood athwart history and yelled "Stop." He inspired others who have since taken up the mantle. I grew up politically on National Review during the 80's (favorite reading material of one Ronald Reagan) and I'll always feel a debt of gratitude to this man.

Good evening.
"If FReepers seriously start questioning William F. Buckley with such infantile criticism as "HE'S OLD", then I will say goodbye to this liberal piece of crap website."
Why? We constantly see great minds and good people lose their cutting edge because of age, so we shouldn't be surprised.
Do you really think the FreeRepublic is a liberal piece of crap website?

"You are old, Father William", the young man said
"And your hair has become very white
"And yet you incessantly stand on your head
"Do you think at your age this is right?"
"In my youth", Father William replied to his son
"I feared it might injure the brain
"But now that I'm perfectly sure I have none
"Why, I do it again and again."

What's gotten into your wheaties today. Are your undies too tight? Everyone has their opinion and obviously some think that Buckley has gotten too old. Why are you upset? Too close to home perhaps?

If FReepers seriously start questioning William F. Buckley with such infantile criticism as "HE'S OLD", then I will say goodbye to this liberal piece of crap website.Buckley is pushing his 80th birthday. He retired from the National Review over 15 years ago. He spends most of his time now in Switzerland, not the US, and as a good patrician no doubt enjoys the insouciant continental ambience. I cut my teeth on Firing Line, but it clear to me that Buckley is basically a retired American.
