No great loss. The guy he shot was a lawyer.

Oh, man, THAT'S embarrassing! We had a guy do that two years ago on a pheasant/quail hunt. Nailed the guy right in the keester from 35 yards, so the guy was OK but pissed that his new overalls were torn up.

Not many people can say they were shot by the Vice President of the United States!
Somebody better save those shotgun pellets.

I'm hoping Cheney takes fat Teddy with him on his next hunt.

I just checked on the DUmmies. They are actually giddy over there, like this will have some bearing on the overall scheme of things.
Lots of call for his arrest, etc.

When I took a hunter safety course the instructors showed us what a shotgun could do up close. Some hunter swung (much in the way Vice President Cheney did, I suppose) and fired. He hit the top of the barrel of a shotgun owned by someone right next to him; the discharge nearly severed that barrel. Could be that this particular hunter was using 00 shotgun shells, whereas Cheney was shooting bird shot. Big difference, of course.
The point of showing us this was to teach us to never swing your shotgun while in the close proximity of another hunter. That's why I was surprised to see that Cheney violated this basic rule.

Well, what's the hubbub all about?
Actually, Cheney invited Ted Kennedy, but he couldn't make it...

I loved the Fox newsbabe's comments:
...You say the quail had just flushed...What does that mean?
He was shot with bird shot...at least it wasn't a real gun.
LOL

Texas bob-whites I have known flush straight up in a spherical arrangement when you're almost about to step on them, and then break away in every three-dimensional direction. Cheney must have been trying a long shot on a bird lighting-out close to the ground, which is a low probability kill shot, given the way they bob and weave. If you don't nail a bird or two (or even three with luck and a semi-auto) within a few seconds and more-or-less overhead, forget it.

All firearms-owners will be demonized this week...Ammo for the anti-gun crowd.
I do understand yet do not accept how this can happen....every hunter MUST live & breath complete safety....this includes the shooter & the others surrounding the shooter...
It has always been simple to me...don't step in front of a shotgun.... Well DUH!

AP- Harry Whittington, 78, was "alert and doing fine"
You can't take a 78 year old on a hunting trip! They shuffle and stumble about, not paying good enough attention to what is going on.
One moment you count on them standing behind on your right and then next thing they are on the left in your line of fire!
A 78 year old is only good for taking to the restaurant so you can make sure they get stuck with the bill. Hunting? No Way!
