Hate crimes laws are contrary to our British/American heritage, in that they criminalize a thought or belief, rather than an action.

Verbally espousing a thought or belief used to not be criminalized; now, in some places if you merely read excerpts from the Koran aloud (those calling for war), or from the bible condemning homosexuality, you can be prosecuted.

Sounds like what's been going on in Canada for years. Up here it's called the Liberal Party Platform (note that former PM Jean Chretien's daughter is married to a man with virtually controlling interest in PetroFINA - aka - France/Iraq pipeline).

This part (and I suspect many others is not true). The US only gets about 10% of it's oil from the Middle East. About half is produced internally, 10% from Mexico, 10% from Venezuela, 10% from the North Sea, and 10% elsewhere.

Oh please! There are many good reasons to oppose "hate crime" statutes, but the notion that there's a vast conspiracy by Muslims to have them enacted, and even more so that this conspiracy's objective is to terminate America's freedom of speech, not to mention the idea that "hate crime" statutes actually would terminate America's freedom of speech, is beyond ridiculous. It is totally absurd.

And the notion that Muslims and homosexuals are in collusion is even more ridiculous than that.
