It's actually the bow he is building. I can't remember the type, only that it is asymmetrical...and beautiful!

yes, Mad Bastard is the bow.
it is an approximation (limited by inexperience, sketchy information, and avaiable materials) of a Yumi - a traditional Japanese laminated bamboo asymmetric longbow.
it is coming along to being finished - I have completed the primary bindings and am well on the way to finishing the secondary bindings (which really make it quite lovely)
Once all bindings are complete, I shall seal the bow with clear lacquer or thin polyurethane varnish.
I shall then string it and leave it strung for about a month.
If it takes that well, I shall then gradually exercise it to full draw - a process which shall take a few weeks.
