LONG LIVE RED CHINA (Would you like your troll mein with soft or crispy noodles?)

China will never go down, and don't think you can banish communism. Because the people won't let it. They know they are the last standing, they are the only ones left. America is in a decline while China's climaxing, America will go down. We are just done with our prime, if anything, we were going into a depression since 1992 (and don't say you don't know that year). Communism is the American's medias' worst nightmare, because of censorship. I hope we all have to read one newspaper and wipe my butt with one brand of tiolet paper. I hope we all die for our next generations to wear the red armband. We deserved 9/11, and they enjoyed it. You probably hate me now, I know, you just still think like its 1945, well too bad its 2005. We only stand to fall.

Luck...

Well, luck wasn't with me. It's got *something*, though the parameters generally match the blackworm virus:
- I vaguely remember the characteristic e-mail I'd received but thought I'd deleted it unread;
- I experienced the mouse/keyboard lockup when it "installs," described in a bulletin;
- It sent a characteristic e-mail to some of my corrrespondents early this week;
- I caught *something* accessing the Internet when nothing was running; and
- the anti-virus software will not run nor can it be updated/re-installed.

Several scanners failed to find it, so I suspect the primary virus downloaded a successor virus and went away so it couldn't be detected.

I am *not* going to wait until Feb 3rd to see if it deletes many of my files. I've got to back up all my non-executable files this weekend (for the executables I have to go back to an earlier save; the descriptions of how this worm hides itself on a system mean I dare not trust any executable it's had access to), and Monday morning the drive gets re-imaged (rebuilt).

The good news is that the "loaner" history of this laptop will also be totally erased. It will be mine... Mine... MINE.... ALL MINE!!!... errr...

I love it when a plan comes together!

LOL!

I try to scan mine every week or so, and take advantage of "free offer" deals to look for spyware and viruses.

I've managed to find quite a few, but still, every once in a while, I'll miss one...

I'm usually pretty diligent about not opening email I don't recognize or think of as "junk."

Me too. The catch for me, though, is that in my work I communicate a *lot* with non-native English-speakers around the world and Lotus Notes (my e-mail system up until a couple of days ago, we're back to Outlook*) will not render some of their names, in particular Japanese and Russian names, so I too often end up opening spam from Russia, just because it may be from a colleague.

The killer is the amount of stuff I ought to be doing Monday and Tuesday, but at least I have a fallback position wherein I can complete the essential elements in a half-day with only Microsoft Word available. (When I called the technical society's editor this morning to tell him about the volume of material I'm about to unload on him, he almost choked.)

* On my laptop the icon for "Outlook" gets renamed "Seall a-Mach!": Gaelic (loosely) for "Look Out!"

I have a bit of fun with renaming desktop icons in Gaelic. "Windows Explorer," for example, tends to wind up as "Rannsaichear na h-Uinneag," which is close enough literally, but the Gaelic for "explorer" ("rannsaichear") translates more closely to English "searcher," though it sounds a lot like "ransacker."

I've never looked to see if "ransacker" and "rannsaichear" are related, though I'm pretty sure they are.

Maybe you could help me decipher some of the Gaelic names in my ancestry!

Explosive spam guard and popup blocker.

I'm going to let you in on a little-known secret. There's a real quick and easy way to get rid of pop-ups and spam forever. Come here close and I'll whisper it to you....

(whispers)...Take a really big claw hammer, grasp it firmly in your preferred hand, and swing it with decisive force upon the computer with the offending popups and spam. Repeat. That gets rid of 'em real good!

NOTE: Don't use one of those liberal, limp-wristed 8 or 9oz hammer. Get a real man's 16oz hammer, or better yet, a two-handed sledgehammer.
