The people of Louisiana have screwed themselves. The majority of New Orleans refugees are the lowest dregs of society that one can imagine. The American people have seen this, some of us, close up and personal!!! Fact is: the overwhelming number of American citizens could care less about New Orleans and its restoration. America has seen what New Orleans was really like, and they don't like it one bit. Mayor Nagin, Governor Blanco, Mary Landrieu are whistling in the wind. No one in America cares!!!

I like the way you think. Let's send in a special train in the middle of the night. Those subhumans obviously are incapable of taking care of themselves so perhaps by putting them in a camp where we can concentrate and isolate their population, we can find a solution to this problem. /s

I still say: "Let the Mississippi flow down the Atchafalaya". Morgen City may have to be moved.

Actually I have been around the US in the last 3 months and found the majority of Americans to be very caring and want the people of New Orleans to get back on their feet. The issue of rebuilding New Orleans is a different story and you get a variety of opinions and because most people are not well-informed about the city and gulf region, you get some strange opinions based on personal prejudices, wild conjecture, MSM lies, and sadly few opinions based on facts.
Finally I have to take you to task for your comment that the refugees are the lowest dregs of society. That is simply untrue. There are many "refugees" who are in the upper 5 to 10% of income earners. For example, the Lakeview region (and the surrounding neighborhoods) are still unlivable being directly between the 17th and London canal breaks. These neighborhoods held a substantial number of the high income residents of the city. Homes in this area were anywhere from $300K to $3M. As long as these residents are in temporary housing and families split apart and kids living in other cities to attend school, I would call them evacuees or "refugees" by your definition. There are other pockets all over SE Louisiana and Mississippi of very well-off residents who lost their homes and many lost both their first and second homes. You and so many others seem to be fixated only on the poor black population, or think that the area is only made up of destitute people living on welfare, but I blame that perception mostly on the media and politicians trying to make political hay. Sadly, there are also too many FReepers who are totally mischaracterizing the situation either out of sheer ignorance or for political purposes.

I have heard and read STORY after STORY of Katrina refugees who, when given a FREE place to stay, repaid the kindness by theft of property or by trashing the place. There is a video clip today on the Atlanta Journal website (www.ajc.com) about a woman who gave a family from NO a free apartment for 3 months and they TRASHED it and left an ugly note to her! They were apparently P.O.'d when the 3 months were over and they had to start paying rent or find another place. They wanted to continue the free ride.
I know a Ga. state mental healthcare worker who took in a woman and children from NO and they robbed her blind while she was at work.
I know a Red Cross worker who is a very BIG HEARTED (but as liberal as they come) individual who will help ANYONE who needs it. After 2 or 3 days of trying to help process paperwork for Katrina refugees (he was earnestly trying to help them get financial aid, a place to stay, etc.), he refused to go back and help with that effort. He said SEVERAL women got in his face and cursed him out when he tried to get detailed information from them in processing the paperwork. It became evident to him they were falsifying claims.
Any other freepers have stories like this?

The people of Louisiana have screwed themselves. They voted to do so.
The "Cat in the Hat" if on the ballot should have been the taker of Louisiana office.
More would have been done in such a case to prevent the concerns that the state holds now.
