Bill, there are ways to remain competitive in any state, even as a conservative. Law and order, fiscal conservancy, education, community development... and other issues appeal accross party lines. That's how you move people in your direction. You will never move people in your direction if you don't present your values, reason with your counterparts and convince them you are right.
Of course there is some truth in the things you say, but it's my opinion we have surrendered certain areas to the left, either as democrats or our own leftists. That needn't be IMO.
