Posted on 11/07/2005 12:22:00 PM PST by shhrubbery!

Sean Hannity just announced that Major General (ret) Paul Vallely will go on air on the Hannity radio show TODAY, Monday Nov. 7, 2005, to reassert that "that if anybody outed Plame, it was Joe Wilson himself" (quoting Hannity).

Vallely has been threatened with a lawsuit by Joe Wilson's lawyer if he does not retract statements he made last week on the John Batchelor show.

Empty threat, IOW. I'm sure Paul Vallely is shaking in his boots.

Not sure it's empty, but I agree that Paul Vallely isn't worried about it.

Interesting case scenario. I don't recall any defamation cases where the allegation is based on a conversation between only the plaintiff and defendant, with no other witnesses. What would really be a hoot would having Wilson try to obtain a court order against Vallely, enjoining him against speaking out further.

Second link in post #58 isn't working for some reason, am going to try again:

Farah on Batchelor show tonight
To discuss threat by Joe Wilson to sue Vallely, news service

"Farah will be on the show beginning at 10 p.m. Eastern. Vallely is scheduled to follow at 10:20 p.m."

Anybody who wants to listen to John Batchelor show, I believe you can listen live online. Go to John Batchelor Show, scroll down to "listen now" button on left.

I'm no lawyer, but a slander lawsuit sounds pretty improbable to me because (a) truth is an absolute defense against a charge of slander (or defamation), and Wilson has provably lied all over the place; and (b) Wilson has made himself a public figure, and public figures must overcome a lot of hurdles to prove slander.

Right! This will be simply a he-said/she-said deal and Wilson will get crushed before the jury/judge by his own lies.

"You mean Vallely's wife was with him in the green room when Wilson outed Plame, right? That's what I thought I heard too."

That is correct.

"That's probably why Vallely doesn't want to name any more names -- anybody he mentions will get threats of being sued too."

Vallely is obviously not scared of Wilson nor his lawyers.

Thanks. Link works now but I still couldn't find anything from the verboten emails there.

Only place I could find an excerpt was here (excerpt quoted in post #60).

Your obviously not a Democrat either (scarcasm)...Don't you know that truth is in the eye of 9th Circuit Court. Truth has nothing to do with anything...

Grampa Dave and I both heard Vallely say his (Vallely's) wife was in the green room at the time.

Also one of the links on this thread (forget which one) has info to the effect that General McInerney (also a consultant to Fox News) heard the same bragging from Wilson. I would assume that if that's true, it wasn't necessarily on the same date, however.

Muffin heard too! Corroborating witness. Cool.

Don't mess with Muffin. I have read that she herself grew up in a military household. Her son also died while in the military. Muffin will tear Wilson to shreads

Ah, right. I'd forgotten Mrs. Vallely's name was Muffin. LOL. Thanks for reminding me. God bless her and the whole family.

And Wilson is only offering up a different version of events - he said/he said.

OK, thanks. Is this what you're referring to (from here)?

In a subsequent e-mail, Wolf explained that he had not intended to append an e-mail from Wilson.

"The earlier version appended additional e-mails that were not intended for you and I would ask you to discard them, please," he wrote. "Specifically, you do not have permission to re-produce or quote from those e-mails sent to you in error. The authors of those e-mails retain all rights in those communications, including copyright and rights under applicable privilege law. Please be advised that your use of those e-mails in any way will compound your liability for the publication of the libelous statements which prompted my letter."

IOW, Mr Wolf is huffing and puffing and threatening to blow WND down if they dare quote from those emails HE mistakenly sent them!!!

So far I don't see any actual quotes from the mistakenly sent attachments, however, except the one in post 60 above (strata-sphere blog).

And Wilson is only offering up a different version of events - he said/he said.

But Wilson may have another witness or witnesses. He was vague about that, maybe strategically.

I heard Vallely say his wife was also in the green room.
I also heard him say his life is open for all, pretty bland. Almost a "Go ahead, make my day" warning.

The best line of all was when Sean asked Vallely what he was going to do about the demands from Joe's lawyer . Vallely replied "Nothing."
