Danish outcry over Prophet's cartoons
Hindustan Times ^ | November 4, 2005 | Vijay Dutt

European countries, in countering fundamentalism, appear to be intent on upsetting Muslims and testing their limits of tolerance. The leading Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, defied Islam's ban on images of the Prophet by printing cartoons by 12 different artists.

In one of them, the Prophet has been depicted as a sabre-wielding terrorist accompanied by women in burqas, in another his turban appears to be a bomb and in a third he is portrayed a schoolboy by a blackboard.

These cartoons have provoked an outcry. Thousands of Muslims took to the streets and the daily has received death threats. The ambassadors of 11 Muslim countries called on the Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen to take " necessary steps" against the "defamation of Islam".

But the Prime Minister, head of a centre-right minority coalition dependant for its survival on support from anti-foreigner policy, called the cartoons a "necessary provocation" and refused to take action. "I will never accept that respect for a religious stance leads to the curtailment of criticism, humour and satire in the Press," he said.

The reality is that a debate on how to integrate Muslims has been raging in Denmark for long and terrorism has only fuelled it further.

The editor of the daily has refused to apologise, saying he would not dream of saying sorry. Many supporters of him have cited the murder of the Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh by an Islamist as a reason for refusal to apologise or support the demand to take any action.

One of the cartoonist said he intended no offence. " But I live in 2005, not 905 and I use my quill in the way that Danish law allows me." A Dutch MP said, " Do you really feel that every Muslim in 2005 should follow the way of life of the Prophet 1400 years ago, a la Koran dictates?"

Good man. I hope he stands his ground.

Let's hope it's not too little too late. I keep expecting to wake up some morning and hear news out of Denmark like we're hearing out of France. Speaking of waking up....man it's late.

"...The leading Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, defied Islam's ban on images of the Prophet..."

Since when is a free newspaper in a traditionally Christian country required to comply with a Muslim "ban."

The deeper issue here has to do with Euro outrage over this issue. They oppose Muslim "bans" for the same reason that they thumb their noses at Christianity - because they recognize no higher power. I wouldn't get too happy over Euro anger at the Danish Muslim protests - they aren't "waking up", they are pedantically nitpicking (which is not the same thing as spiritual and ideological opposition to Islamofascism).

The Danes have been awake for quite a while. They're good allies.

Absolutely. I hope the situation isn't as stark as the sentence you quoted implies. God save us all if it is.

WTF?? "European countries, in countering fundamentalism, appear to be intent on upsetting Muslims and testing their limits of tolerance. The leading Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, defied Islam's ban on images of the Prophet by printing cartoons by 12 different artists."

Defy ISLAM's ban? As if the whole entire world is expected to honor anything coming from anyone practicing Islam? How about Israel's ban on suicide bombers? How INCREDIBLY ARROGANT for one to assert that some other country or culture is defying Islam's ban! Wow, and they say the US is arrogant,,,amazing

And just as an aside,,what are the Muslim "limits of tolerance?" The author has no proof of the existence of such a concept.

F*ck 'em. F*ck the Moozies, their umma, f*ck Mohammed, and f*ck their bloodthirsty moon-god Allah.

They are USING the "tolerance" and "liberalism" of the West to try to shame us into submission.

Now the chickens have come home to roost in Eurabia. The question that remains is whether our weaker cousins have the fortitude to resist. (Which I doubt)

Europe as we know it is FINISHED. Their socialist dream of all men of all creeds sitting around a fire, beating drums, and singing "Kumbaya" in harmony is OVER.

Suffer, Europe - suffer and burn.

If they do not have the will to resist and expell the cancer of the Islamic killers they have welcomed with their idealistic naivete, then they do not deserve to live as free men and women.

Want to know why the vast majority of the adherents of the Religion of Peace® don't condemn their brethren for their atrocities committed in the name of their god? BECAUE THEY SUPPORT THEM!

Islam is not a religion - it is a cult. Granted, it is a cult with over a billion followers, but a cult none the less. It is a cult of murder, it is a cult of rape, it is a cult of slavery, and worst of all, it is a cult determined to dominate the world.

The worst thing is the cowardice of the West in the face of this cult. We are so determined to protect "freedom of religion" that we are willing to allow ourselves to be murdered, raped, and enslaved in the name of "tolerance".

F*ck that.

Let the Moozies try to riot in Indianapolis. If the police and the National Guard aren't willing to put them down with force, I know a bunch of patriotic gun enthusiasts who are more than willing to pick up the slack.

I propose the just settlement for Denmark and Holland is to simply relocate all musli to their homelands.

They never had the slightest claim in those countries, were not taken as slaves, came of their own will, and now don't like matters.

So get rid of them, plain and simple.

Applies equally to any in north America. Complain, riot, leave.
