Brown Discussed Wardrobe During Katrina
Newly-released e-mails show former FEMA director Michael Brown discussing his wardrobe during the crisis caused by Hurricane Katrina.
A House panel has released 23 pages of internal e-mail offering additional evidence of a confused and distracted government response to Katrina, particularly from Brown, the former head of Federal Emergency Management Agency, at critical moments after the storm hit.
The e-mails show that Brown, who had been planning to step down from his post when the storm hit, was preoccupied with his image on television even as one of the first FEMA officials to arrive in New Orleans, Marty Bahamonde, was reporting a crisis situation of increasing chaos to FEMA officials.
"My eyes must certainly be deceiving me. You look fabulous and I'm not talking the makeup," writes Cindy Taylor, FEMA's deputy director of public affairs to Brown on 7:10 a.m. local time on Aug. 29.
"I got it at Nordstroms," Brown writes back. "Are you proud of me? Can I quit now? Can I go home?" An hour later, Brown adds: "If you'll look at my lovely FEMA attire, you'll really vomit. I am a fashion god."
A week later, Brown's aide, Sharon Worthy, reminds him to pay heed to his image on TV.

ARGH! Can't spell, must be time for bed.
What a pitty.
That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Call a spade a spade and don't lie like the MSM. A poor performer is a poor performer and that doesn't depend on what the meaning of "is" is.
So, you mean to tell me you support him just because the MSM doesn't ... retarded. As a conservative, our views are not supposed to shift with the wind ... and they certainly are not supposed to be determined by what the MSM thinks of someone.
So you're not a conservative at all ... independent, pro-small government, seeking what is right ... rather you just like to feel like you're part of something regardless of how dumb that my be. In this case the support the FEMA director club.
Hey look, go for it. I just think that real conservatives are bigger than this ... but supporting "Brownie" because of the R, despite the fact that he was incompetent does not help our cause. I could give a rats behind about what the MSM thinks of him ... I think he sucked and made the President look terrible. These emails prove it.
If you think he was good for Bush and conservatives and an effective leader, you need to get your head checked or have your conservative "credentials" pulled.
OH. . .thanks(!)
Well, I did say ". . .private - as privately as they can be".
Brown did not break ANY laws; and releasing his e-mails for public consumption is just wrong. . .IMHO.
Still say that decision and the public response has been more than 'DU' like.
Think it unfair. . .and unfortunate; and sounds more like a bad case of the 'Liberal Nasties' going around.
How about the e-mails of Blanco/Nagin. . .Harry Reid. . Hillary. . .Shumer. . .private - or no. . .?
Perhaps in the wake of such a huge disaster, and monumental undertaking, he was looking for comic relief, and to give the same to his co-workers. Sometimes humor is a good buffer in a terribly stressful situation.
I wasn't giving this guy a free pass, I just made the observation that anyone with an (R) next to their name is attacked by the media, I don't feel it is necessary for me to join in with them. If he did something wrong it will come out and he will reap what he sowed. If that makes me not a conservative in your eyes, I can live with that. Have a nice day.
Does the term "Metrosexual" apply here?
