If it's so wrong for the oil companies to "profit off the backs of poor & suffering Americans" (as BOR says) and the oil companies are expected to redistribute their wealth, then what about everything/one else??
What about those rich Dr.s driving around in Rolls' with their multiple homes getting rich off the backs of poor and suffering Americans?
Come on people!!

No offense to you, or others who like BOR, but O'Reilly does not understand economics OR politics. He's just hyping stuff on his programs, pandering to listeners who think he's "looking our for you."

I don't agree with BOR, but there is a governmental responsibility for oversight. T. Roosevelt was a capitalist but understood laissez-faire economics is not good for the country. I don't buy into the company line of corporate conservatives who portray CEOs and other corporate types as benevolent captains of industry only seeking profit after other considerations are addressed. Bool-dinkies.

I believe it was GE that had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the courts before they would even begin to clean up the Hudson River. Those same corp. heads who are striving to be profitable are the same ones who are hiring illegal aliens.

The myth that it is in a companies best interest to serve the public interest is exactly that, a myth. Look back into history during the Civil War when soldiers were getting putrid canned meat and other food stuffs. Perhaps you would like to disband the USDA and take your chances on how pure your food would be.

I am coming in late to this particular discussion (mostly because it's so boring! zzzzzz) but, what then is the difference between the oil companies and the gas, electric, phone providers who are heavily regulated?

ps: Oil is a necessary commodity that our society has decided is something we don't want to live without. Frankly, who cares how much it is? I drive a car that is not fuel efficient at all, and pay the price, because it's my choice. Why is Rush wasting all this time "educating" the masses, because the bottom line is we will pay whatever it costs or adjust accordingly.
