"And we will simply get stronger as time goes on, since we are the only ones with a positive vision for the future of America."
Bingo. What's more, we aren't willing to simply give in to McCain and Reid and everyone else...we aren't willing to run and whimper and hide and pursue the only sure losing strategy (surrender).
We won't always win. But our positive vision for America's future (like the vision of the founders) is one that deserves something greater than a preemptive, unilateral surrender.
You don't get it.
No one "won" anything. This was bad all the way around. Starting with the President's decision.
It just seems to get worse with him.
To win, I think were all going to have to wait until 08. And at this rate, were going to need a damn good candidate, and a lot of luck.
And you know this because?
Did you speak with Luttig?
Would you want to go through this process?

The fight for this nominee is over. Stop trying to convince yourself that what happened is what you wanted to have happened.
What happened here is that "constructionist" and "verifiable" have been added as qualifications for nominees coming from a GOP President (if he wants to hold onto the GOP base). None of those other things were ever at issue, except in the strawman arguments of supporters. Do you really think we were more concerned about her SMU education than her demonstrable prediliction for supporting racist and sexist policy?
Point made.
That is the most honest, informative statement yet made on the subject of the Miers nomination.
What you weren't willing to do was let the process work.
You denied her right to pass or fail on her own.
WWWWWelllllll just imagine if President Bush had proposed Reagan's Immigration program?? He would have been tarred and feathered because it was far more liberal than Bush's.
Quit calling people stupid!! The fight is over ok, you won; now how about being good winners??
Pray for W and Our Troops
I don't think some of them realize that the PROCESS, has been thrown out the window. She deserved her hearing then an up or down vote. She deserved that much.
I vigorously opposed this nomination. However, I have consistently prayed for the President every day of his presidency. Indeed, he needs our prayers. Probably now more than ever.
I disagree. If Bush nominates a strict constitutionalist and conservative with battle-tested, impecable, verifiable credentials (like Luttig, McConnell, Alioto, Brown, Jone, Owen, etc), he will see a tremendous outpouring of support from the conservative majority that elected him to do exactly that. It is time for Bush to stop pandering and appeasing the RINOs & DimWits because they will hate & despise him anyway. Give us a nominee that we can rally around and support, not another stealth nominee or liberal-moderate nominee like Gonzales. Do the right thing, GW Bush!
I agree.
And when are Freepers like you going to realize that the continual sniping at this President adds nothing to the debate.
If you disagree on certain issues, then you will be taken serious. When you broadbrush, then your comments reek of someone who this President can never please.
Stop and think and you might find this President has actually done something you like -- what other President has had so much on his plate thanks to the previous occupant of the WH?
It behooves all of us to consider that this man has had more to deal with then anyone of us can imagine. Is he perfect, no and he will be the first to tell you so. Does he genuinely care about this Country? Damn right he does.
This isn't bickering. It's a fight over ideas. And it's healthy.
Yep, he'll hear from all of us, but the feeling I get is he's a bit angry at the way Miers was handled.
The Miers fiasco was like a day at Club Med compared to the Schiavo incident.
I'd like to believe it but somehow I don't. Surely things like limiting partial birth abortion and parental notification is popular. But if everyone got an up or down vote in the privacy of a voting booth, I expect that abortion would still be legal. Of course I live in a red state rapidly going blue and work in one of the bluest of blue states so my views might be tainted.
