I wasn’t worried about John Roberts, I figured Bush knew where he REALLY stood on the issues. Miers is more worrisome, but, again, maybe Bush knows her well enough that he has confidence in her views.
I would hate to think that the most important qualification for this job has become the LACK of a record.

Wrong. We got Al Gore. What would FReepers be saying right now if Gore had been elected and done all of this:
1.New law providing drugs for all seniors.
2.More farm pork.
3.Education bill drafted by Kennedy.
4.200 Billion of our money promised for Katrina plus $2000 debit cards for all.
5.Patriot Act (You may feel it's okay in application right now, but what if it had been Al Gore's brainchild?).
6.Supreme Court nominees.
7.Not securing our borders even after 9-11.
8.Not enforcing our immigration laws even after 9-11.
If Bush were a democrat, FReepers would be livid.

BTW, in case you haven't noticed it, the Republican Party has gradually leaned toward the JFK Democrat Party (early 1960's). Same thoughts about taxes, defense, etc. Strong national defense. Bush and Kennedy DO have some of the same strategies...with the exception that Kennedy put his bro in as AG. Bush left Jebbie in Florida. Bush pretty much sticks by his guns, be they good or bad. Clinton had his finger in the wind (and other places) so much that we were being lead by whichever poll was ahead.
Meanwhile, the beloved Democrats continue to lean directly left, into the socialist wind, and if allowed, will lead us into communism in the near future.
Yes, I remember him running for President in 88 and he may as well have been a Republican. He was pro-life and very pro-military. He later sold his soul I guess and then went nuts.

Lots of things are "said to be." Doesn't make it so. Smart people will find out for sure before making decisions based on things that are "said to be."
That's it, I'm done with Bush.

I haven't met her, but these guys know what they are doing...if she was a DINO back then, there is no reason to hold that over her head for sure....like you said the pubs all had to be b/c of the way we elect our judges...even if she was just an attorney.

Of course that's not the most important qualification; but the lack of paper trail seems to be important to GWB.
I hoped for a nominee that would force resolution of the imporoer use of cloture to keep the Senate from rendering advice & consent, and a Supreme Court Justice with a staunch conservative record. But in the immortal words of Mick Jagger, "You can't always get what you wa-ant."
Guess what, George Bush IS NOT CONSERVATIVE.
