Uighurs to Declare War against Chinese Government

09/30/05

The members of 'East Turkestan Liberation Organization(ETLO)' making the declaration via a video (from BBC)

'East Turkestan Liberation Organization(ETLO)', a radical Uighur organization, declared publicly war against Chinese government for the first time, via videotaped statements, BBC reported on Sept. 30th (in its Chinese edition.)

According to BBC, 'East Turkestan Information Center' located in Munich, Germany, provided the link to the web site containing this video(made by Tianshan branch of ETLO), and apparently it was announced via overseas Wanwei free server, fhreactor.com.

In the video, three ETLO masked members carrying an assault rifle announced the declaration in Uighur language, with the organization's banner(crescent Moon flag with stars) as a backdrop.

In their statements, they appealed to Uighurs to resist the activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of Xinjiang Autonomous District on Oct. 1, and declared that they will prosecute armed revolt against Chinese government, with all possible means.

Chinese government classifies ETLO, which demands Uighur independence, as a terrorist organization, and in particular, after 9/11 incident, tightened the control over Uighurs in the name of anti-terror (campaign), causing international condemnations.

On Sept. 23rd,  in Kuerlei, one of three major cities in Xinjiang, its Uighur mayor, Mutalifu(?) Yusuf(age:43)  reportedly killed himself, but Chinese government is clamping down  the coverage of this incident, prompting suspicion on the nature of his (alleged) suicide.

After WWII, Uighurs in Xinjiang set up independent 'East Turkestan Republic' just like five other countries in West Turkestan, but it was forcibly annexed to China by (Chinese) communists in 1949.

Currently, many Uighurs rather want to exercise the right of full ethnic autonomy guaranteed in Chinese law rather than independence, and oppose nuclear test (in their territory,) one-child policy, and religious persecution. However, they are now all branded as 'separatists.'

Why support communists? What happened if Soviet Union ruled Afghanistan? We might have lost our oil from the Middle East with Soviet Union advancing into the region through Afghanistan. If we don't stop China now, we are going to suffer anyways. This is a choice between bad and the worst. It was totally Clinton's fault for 911. If we had declared war earlier, we wouldn't had 911 in the first place. We could always go in and kill the Al Qaida after it declared independence. Before that, it sounds like Al Qaida's connection in Uighur is nothing more than Chinese propaganda. Don't get brainwashed by the leftist propaganda.

East Turkistan Liberation Organization
Mothertongue Name: Sharq azat Turkistan

Base of Operation: China; Kyrgyzstan

Founding Philosophy: The East Turkistan Liberation Organization (ETLO) is one of several ethnic Uyghur groups operating in central Asia and the Chinese province of Xinjiang. The Uyghurs, Muslims of Turkic descent, have had a tumultuous history with successive Chinese dynasties and governments. Although the Uyghurs have at times enjoyed autonomy and freedom of religion, their relationship to the current Communist regime in China has been rife with conflict. The ETLO is one of several factions of the Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), an umbrella organization dedicated to the foundation of an Islamic State in Xinjiang. Although East Turkistan technically refers to the Chinese province of Xinjiang, some believe that these Uyghur militants are seeking to create a state that includes parts of Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, and Pakistan in addition to Xinjiang.

Although the East Turkestan Liberation Organization has been blamed for several small attacks in both China and Central Asia, their lone definitive attack was the assassination of the First Secretary of the Chinese Embassy and a companion, a Kyrgyzstan citizen, in Bishek, Kyrgyzstan. China has called for the East Turkestan Liberation Organization to be designated a terrorist organization by the United States and UN. As yet, only the ETIM has been recognized as such, and the ETLO is seen solely as a faction of that group.

Current Goals: The ETLO under the umbrella of ETIM has indirect links to al-Qaeda, Usama bin-Laden, and the Taliban. Al-Qaeda has provided both financial assistance and training to the ETIM, which in turn has supported their numerous factions, including the ETLO. Although the ETLO has only been responsible for one terrorist attack at present, it is probable that their members will mount more attacks in the future, either as the ETLO, or as members of the ETIM. The ETLO’s current goal continues to be the foundation of an Islamic state in Xinjiang province, an unlikely possibility given China’s dedication to crushing Uyghur militancy in all its forms.

Lake is a long established propagandist or apologist for the Chinese communist party here at FR.

Propagandists will try to establish that Cindy Sheehan and her co-horts represent American thought and action. Nothing said about her will necessarily be untrue in providing the distorted agenda driven propaganda.
