If he were Bill Clinton (which thank God he is not), today's talk shows would have been full of his minions --Carville, Stephanopoulis, Davis, Begala, etc. -- attacking his critics and applauding his heroism.
But Bush, whatever his flaws, is too classy to do that.
Yes, indeed. But he won't. I've said it before, the Dems are looting his political capital. And he's too---classy, too Christian, too high-road to fight back.
Everybody in the administration is taking their cue from him. To name two, Dr. Rice expressing empathy for the Black Caucus after their vicious attack on the President; Chertoff on Fox expressing understanding for Mayor Nagin when he slammed the federal govt for their response.
All this class and Christianity on the high road is going to end up with the Dems hijacking our vehicle and running us over on the high road in 2008. If not sooner.
He won't. Because he's above them and he's going to use his resources to fix it.
He needs to come out and lay the blame where it is due
Bush cannot get into this blame game stuff especially now but also in the future. If he did now the perception would be he's spending his time blaming people and not helping the relief efforts. They'll be a commission that will end up blaming just about everybody.
The President needs to stand back and watch these idjits dig themselves a hole from which they cannot escape.
I totally agree. With each passing day, the RATS spew their lies and gain a foothold on public opinion. The WH needs to got on this NOW.
Yes, he DOES need to address this TODAY, and DIRECTLY, but you and I both know that he won't----in characteristic uniter- not- divider form he's already got his head hung sheepishly down and accepting a significant part of the blame. I had no idea at the beginning he was such putty in the hands of his detractors, such a latent masochist. This is going to do him in, and sorry to say, he deserves it if he can't find the steel to lay the blame where it belongs. Maybe he feels his "spokesmen" will do it for him. They will try, but it will be too little, too late.
4. Federal Law Enforcement Assistance a. In a disaster or emergency, each State has primary responsibility for law enforce-ment, using State and local resources, including the National Guard (to the extent that the National Guard remains under State authority and has not been called into Federal service or ordered to active duty). Accordingly, the FRP makes no provision for direct Federal support of law enforcement functions in a disaster or emergency. b. If a State government should experience a law enforcement emergency (including one in connection with a disaster or emergency) in which it could not provide an adequate response to protect the lives and property of citizens, the State (on behalf of itself or a local unit of government) might submit an application in writing from the Governor to the Attorney General of the United States to request emergency Federal law enforcement assistance under the Justice Assistance Act of 1984 (42 U.S.C. 10501-10513) as prescribed in 28 CFR 65. The Attorney General will approve or disapprove the application no later than 10 days after receipt. If the application is approved, Federal law enforcement assistance may be provided including equipment, training, intelligence, and personnel.
The president needs to address this TODAY -- DIRECTLY. He needs to come out and lay the blame where it is due, and point out that the facts are the facts, and the attempts to make this humanitarian tragedy into a political game are reprehensible.
EXACTLY! WHY DO WE PAY GOVERNORS, MAYORS, POLICE, 1ST RESPONDERS ETC IF THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING?
Ain't gonna happen. That is one of my sources of frustration with the president. He will NOT stand up to these people and b*tch slap them into a little bit if humility, when that is what is most desperately needed. We've been playing nice for far too long with these traitorous, socialist malcontents who are daily costing lives here and abroad in the name of "equity," "civil rights" and "peace." They can kiss my @$$. Either be a part of the solution or STFU, get out of the way and let the grown-ups handle it!
I agree %1000 .Im getting sick of Bush just ignoring the crap that is thrown his way . He needs to come out guns blazing and tell the damn truth and put the blaim on those clowns in NO .He needs to do that on a number of issues. Whats he afraid of ? He afraid that they will say nasty things back to him ? (sarcasism ) What does he have to loose but coming out with some balls for a change and blast the hell out ot the MSM and the Dem liars.
I agree.
I've said this from Day 1. I suspected the Dems would stoop to new lows in an effort to blame Bush for all of this.
I'm sure Bush desperately wants to avoid political bickering at this point. He's only interested in the rescue and rebuilding of the area.
OTOH, the Dems (elected officials and MSM) only want to take a piece out of hide for this.
I hate to suggest that Bush stoop to the Dem's level - but he has got to set the record straight - NOW!
