P.E.I. opens doors to Katrina victims

Broadcast News
September 02, 2005

CHARLOTTETOWN -- Premier Pat Binns says people on Prince Edward Island want to open their doors to Americans displaced by hurricane Katrina.

Binns says at least 50 Islanders have expressed interest in providing housing.

He says he's been in contact with Canada's ambassador to the U.S., Frank McKenna, and David Wilkins, the U.S. ambassador to Canada.

No word yet on whether the Americans will take P.E.I. up on the offer.

There would be true poetic justice if any of them ended up in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, 250 years after the expulsion of the Acadians.

Northeastern New Brunswick is essentially Acadian.

Thanks for the ping, NO45.

Ping to open doors in Canada!

Anybody have room?

I have one room with a single bed, and could take a teenager, or single adult.
Or a small family that didn't mind sleeping on the floor.
LOL.

;-)

P.E.I. is beautiful too. Nothing like sitting in one of their tea rooms by the fire overlooking one of their beautiful waterfront towns.

You do have a point there. The winters would be a shock to the system.

That was my thought exactly... many folks from LA have roots in the Maritime provinces.

You can't send Southerners that far North, they'll freeze and shatter.

Don't worry, PEI is one of the poorest and most big government socialist provinces in Canada. Alberta is paying the tab for this one.
