Katrina Live Thread, Part X
Various ^ | 30 August 2005

Posted on 08/30/2005 6:51:27 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Catastrophic damage occurred to Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Major bridges are destroyed. Mobile AL suffered its worst flooding in 90 years. In New Orleans, a large section of concrete levee broke last night. Water continues to rise, threatening, among many things, Tulane Hospital with 1000 patients. New Orleans officials: Do not attempt to return to the city at this time if you evacuated. It is too dangerous.

Is the Hwy 90 bridge near your Dad's? I think a CNN reporter was told not to got that route earlier because of the bridge.

I think we have another use for the coffins these people would use.

I don't know what to do about them, the jail is probably closed or overpopulated now. Maybe drop them off at the superdome.

I personally looked at every single model track from from every single computer model the entire life of Katrina, and every single forecast track, plotted on a map.

And I have software (Stormtrakker) that allows me to basically play a "movie" of the NHC forecast track and all the model tracks over time.

The NHC forecast landfall was moved to just west of the MS/AL border at 5PM on Friday and moved to New Orleans at 11PM on Friday. That's a fact. You're flat out wrong if you believe otherwise.

And like many people you completely misunderstand the strike probability tables; they only extend out 72 hours; they are not an indication of FINAL overall probability of a landfall, just the probability the storm will be within a certain number of miles of a given point WITHIN 72 HOURS...and they're based on a standard pattern around the NHC forecast track; the strike probs aren't done by hand or anything.

It would be terrible of the looters caught Diptheria or Tetnus from the flood waters. I may not sleep tonight worrying about it.

Yeah, me too. (snicker,snicker.)

Don't worry, they WILL PAY. One way or the other. Sooner rather than later.

Fine buddy, but feel free to look it up yourself: nothing I posted is made up or revised.

Most of the time we agree, or so it seems. And I certainly apologize for any comments that may have come off as personal.
Have a good one, and stay safe.

"People standing in the street, trying things on to get "the best fit," he said."

Drowning would be too good for them.

the key was the levies

Yeah. I thought they may have avoided the worst-case though. As you can tell, I certainly didn't expect this. A monster like this comes your way and I pray you do leave.

Great plan. Unfortunatley, the looters just stold the cruise ships. :)

But seriously, I do see the cruise ships as being a peice of the puzzle here. If not for rescue, for ongoing housing.

you were one who continually told us the past few days about the reality of the aftermath of these storms. thanks. I am one of those who knows little (and didn't know what a "parish" was either).."

Seen one, seen them all....till this one.

NautiNurse deserves all the credit here. She's been working this and maintaining equilibrium for days now. I just show up for landfall. Take care of yourself, plan for the long haul, I don't think the surprises are over yet.
