New Orleans is all hype it is on the northwest side of the storm away from the tidal surge. If the media knew what they were talking about they would not be frieghening people in new orleans. The tidal surge is on the east side of the storm when Ivan hit alabama the east side had the storm surge. New Orleans will be on the west side and there will be very little flooding.

The media is a joke there are no live video feeds from crawford so they use a military phone hook when Bush gives a press conference from there. They play his whole press conference on terrible audio. Why can't they just wait ten minutes then play the video with good audio quality. During a hurricane you want people to feel secured not on a terrible audio line. Then they wind up having to run the press conference again and cut if off short. Just play the press conference once with audio.

the north to south winds on the west side will force the lake up against the levees, if it breaches them, the city will flood. I do agree that its better for new orleans to be west of where the eye comes ashore, the flooding from the lake will be "better" then the dome of water from the gulf. What happens to Gulfport MS is another story.

Please go read the NWS warning statement. There's no hype, this is the real thing this time. New Orleans is about to be hit by a 100-mile-wide tornado.

As I understand it, New Orleans is south of the lake, so in reality the eye passing to the east may be worse than to the west. Wind from the northeast may force water over the floodwall and into the city.

It appears that it is YOU who doesn't know what they are talking about.

The problem is the lake is on the east side. The storm is going to hit it head on. The thing that will wreck NO is the water flowing out of the lake and into the city.

And if you have flown into NO, you know its a big, big lake.

On the other hand, if you ever lived through a Blizzard in the northeast (or any place) you will get used to the media hype.

My god, there are people getting nervous here!
