but how far west would it have to hit to lessen the effects? Bastardi saying his prediction is 30 miles east of New Orleans for landfall. So if the choice is 30 miles to the east with 100MPH winds with the flooding from the lake, or a dead on hit, which is better?

Anything within 30 miles to the east should be worse than anything to the west.

Slightly east would be worse than a center-hit, as it will push in lots more water. But from the size of it, it's like asking "do you want the grenade to go off in your lap, or just to the right of your chair?"

Either way, I'm not sure if we have enough body bags
