Hurricane Katrina, Live Thread, Part V
NHC - NOAA ^ | 28 August 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 08/28/2005 9:35:34 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans is finally underway. Louisiana officials are warning of complete failure to levy systems, and pleading with people to leave low lying areas. For those who choose to stay, they are recommending picks and axes for breaking through to access their roofs during flooding.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be rushing hurricane preparations to completion.

FNC reporters have elected to "ride it out" inside the Superdome.

Whatever FNC's paying those guys, it's not enough.

Yes, they should, and hope the high rises don't fail.

LA Women, what's going on in Baton Rogue? Are you able to prepare?

God Bless you, and all in harm's way.

Peach, How are you?

They break down New Orleans into Parishes. Is that like counties?

Being Catholic, we refer to Parishes as Church areas. Is that the same?

Working outside, but FOX NEWS Radio is wall to wall coverage.

That's true.

TWC loves good film footage and on the scene reporting - but dead reporters aren't something they want to deal with.

It sounds reasonable. But after this catastrophic storm, there is going to be hell to pay.

I feel as tho I'm watching a Sci-Fi "Day of Destruction" type movie. This is unreal.

They are advising people to go west right now out of New Orleans -- at 4:00 p.m. they will open all outbound flows on interstate I-10. No people to speak of going eastbound into the city according to local channel.

Cannot figure out why all outbound lanes are not open right now.

Those who are in the path AND HAVE TIME should take down their satellite dishes and put them inside. They will not withstand 150-plus winds, can become 20-pound frisbees (DANGEROUS).

If protected until the storm passes and then reinstalled, will mean the unit works, vs. being destroyed.

Even Jim Cantore said he was leaving his MS location for safer ground.

Steve Harrigan from Fox....has moved inland also.

He said I reminded him of the Wife of Bath from the canturbury tales, for some reason...

Hopefully you didn't take that as a compliment.

don't know who that is. Jim Cantore maybe? Either way wish the FNC would just report and stop all the glitz and glamour. I prefer to hear Orlando mostly. He's pretty straight forward and not out there as a "fashion" icon.

I wonder if the navy has any hospital ships en route? The only way rescue crews will be able to access survivors will be via helicopter or boat.

A horrible race...let's hope Gilbert stays the worst...for the sake of all of those in Katrina's path.

We are praying here that the good Lord will have the storm veer to either side and avoid that horrific direct hit on NO. God be with them all in either case.
