Washington recasts terror war as 'struggle'
Int'l Herald Tribune ^ | WEDNESDAY, JULY 27, 2005 | By Eric Schmitt and Thom Shanker The New York Times

Posted on 07/27/2005 2:30:06 PM PDT by paltz

In recent speeches and news conferences, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and the country's top military officer have spoken of "a global struggle against violent extremism" rather than "the global war on terror," which had been the catchphrase of choice.

Administration officials say the earlier phrase may have outlived its usefulness, because it focused attention solely, and incorrectly, on the military campaign.

"Struggle" translates to "jihad" in Arabic.

No mistaken choice of words.

Right!

We're having struggle rally and parade this weekend!

But seriously....................

could the reasoning be that "wars are won or lost" but struggles just continue until one side or the other becomes bored?

Everyone expects a war to be able to be won, but a struggle is just a nuisance, like Al Gore was quoted as he referred to the WOT, then nobody will expect GWB to have to win the WOT, hence, he won't be held liable for our eventual defeat.

In order to win the peace we must kill all of the Muslims necessary to win the peace. It is really that simple.

I agree,

too bad what we're doing is spending $100 billion a year wiring iraq for cable tv and broadband.

Light-em up and bring all the Americans home.

Hey to win real wars [not police actions or enforcing 14 UN resolutions] we need a draft, war bonds, rationing and Rosie the Riveter. We aren't about to do those so it is better not to call it a war, isn't it?

In defense of the International Herald Tribune, they stole this non-story from the New York Times, who made it up first.

I can't wait to see the Anti-Struggle protesters in the streets.
And when Al Jazeera translates it, the average rabid fire-breathing moslem will realize that the leftists are protesting against Jihad...
