Hurricanes Emily and Dennis are the strongest July storms in recorded history for the Atlantic hurricane basin...

Yes--Emily has broken the record for July recorded history.
As a bona fide hurricane magnet...I can't fathom a Cat 4-5 direct hit either.
Been busy at work this week, went to Birmingham last night to see the American Idol Tour concert. Great Show -- Bo and Carrie were awesome. Obviously Bo dominated the show since it was in his home town.
Today is a kick back and rest day.
Almost makes you wonder what we should expect in August and September. I have to go to Galveston for a conference in October. Hope it will still be there. They have a big seawall now.
Are you near Wrightsville Beach?
I personally think Dennis topped CAT 5 right before landfall in Cuba, but the NHC has yet to confirm that.
:) Thanks for the welcome! I'm watching this one - one of the tracks showed it going west of us.. if that's the case it should dump a bunch of rain ... good for us - not so great for the coast... :(
My oldest son is THRILLED at the prospect he's quite the storm lover.. laugh..
I can promise you--those of us in Florida can't even process expectations for the next two months. It's too much, too soon. Alabama will concur too.
lol--lived in NC before moving to FL.
Actually, early August at least and maybe into late August should be fairly mild as far as Gulf Storms go. Dennis and Emily have done a good job of churning the waters of the Caribbean and the gulf, and the water temps may be lower than normal during August.
Won't affect storms forming in the Atlantic, but it could keep those storms from intensifying if they make into the Caribbean or gulf.
Of course that doesn't mean that the East Coast may not get raked.
Don't you just love (most times) the fearlessness of youth?
Ah, a Floridian! My predecessor left her chemist job to become an insurance adjuster in Florida last year. Made a lot of money from what I heard. Not a job I would want to have.
Glad you found us this evening--looking forward to another visit soon. Everyone appreciates your thoughtful storm analyses. :o)
Thanks for the links. Even with dialup I was able to load the loops. Pretty cool.
NN, I don't think I'm on your hurricane ping list, so would you add me, please.
Ha! Was NC storm battered before moving to FL.
Laugh... oh yeah - thankfully he's a pretty responsible 21 year old and knows his school and work come first.. He's been yammering about being a storm chaser tho'.. eekk..
We lived in Raleigh before TX! Saw you're from NC..
You weren't asking me but I can't resist replying ... LOL! I grew up in Wilmington and spent many a day at Wrightsville Beach. We live west of Charlotte now and miss the beach, though it's definitely not the same place it was in my childhood/teen years.
I'll make a deal with ya.........you come up here for the summer/fall in PA and we'll come down there for the winter. How's that sound? ;-)
ROFL, I'll never look at Jamaica the same again.
