I don't want to hold the actions of 19th Century carpetbaggers against present-day Nothern migrants to the South, anymore than I want Northerners to hold it against me that most of my ancestors were Confederates.

Well, that's the whole topic of this thread, isn't it? Like,

When is that going to stop happening??

For instance, I feel very at home amongst conservative rural-types from WI, MN and MI.

As well you should; well, there are some good friends to be had there. I had some good friends in Minnesota when I was a boy. Always wondered what happened to them.

Probably not anytime soon. But it certainly does ebb and flow throughout time according to intellectual fashions. As I've often said on this forum, in the 1970s the CBF was considered a piece of quaint Americana, whereas today it is considered to be a blunt symbol of racist oppression. What changed? Was it the symbol or was it the mentality of our elites?

Anyway, I'm just biding my time waiting for this upsurge in fashionable South-bashing to become unfashionable again.

Besides, like my grandmother taught me, two wrongs don't make a right. :-)
