At that point the Cuban government ceased publishing the statistics on the self-slaughter. The figures became state secrets. The implications horrified even the government.

And yet the American left still adores Castro.

Of course. It is only the misguided Christians and staunch Americans who prevent them from attaining their utopia on earth. What an appalling story.

The terrorists at Gitmo have better lives than the average Cuban.

I have friends in Key West who have sent contingents to Cuba to find out if there is any hope for normalization after Castro. Rumors are nothing will change as Raoul, Fidel's brother is all set to take the reigns. Very sad thing over there, one of the most brutal regimes ever.

Even some who are SUPPOSEDLY on the Right claim that its time to go the route of Communist Red China boot (butt?) licking and to appease the Communist monsters to the South. Personally, anyone who wants to appease them, Left or faux "Right" merits a one way ticket in my book!

Or maybe, on the somewhat more far fetched side, Venezuela and Cuba merge into a Communist confederation. There you have it, "problem" solved! :(

When Cuba agreed to allow the installation of Soviet missiles that could reach the US in less than ten minutes, they reached their own special "enemy status." The absolute worst thing imaginable would be to give Castro the chance to declare that after over 40 years of embargo he was able to "outlast" the US. We have made it very clear what is the necessary prerequisite for normalized relations with Cuba: Castro and his cronies have got to go.

Personally, although JFK implied we'd not try to invade again (either directly or by proxy) I think we need to break that ill advised promise. We know how to do it. As demonstrated in '03 in Iraq. And in this case, there would be no insurgents since they wouldn't be able to sneak in. If anything, the remaining Christians in Cuba would jump for joy upon being returned to a normal state of existence after the final waking from their 46 year long nightmare.

Who the hell really care what JFK implied? Any "promise" he made was to appease the Soviets. We didn't want to risk World War III with the Soviet Bloc, but they don't exist anymore. Kennedy was acting under the assumption that the economic embargo would break Castro's will. He never dreamed that Castro would starve his own people and destroy his country just to defy the United States. Kennedy also believed that our allies would stand by us and impose their own sanctions; but that never happened, and now Canadians, British, and Europeans give Cuba enough in tourist trade to get by. I was always shocked that Reagan didn't go immediately into Cuba after we invaded Grenada in 1983

Castro's only real ally in the region is Venezuela, and we could easily take them out too. We've been waiting for Castro to die for decades, enough is enough, we should just finish it.

Unfortunately we had our chance at the bay of pigs and kennedy dropped the ball miserably. I doubt anyone else in power here will have the cajones to take Castro or his heirs out although he is personallyy responsibly for terrorism all over the world and actually trains terrorists worldwide.

As I said earlier, I was hoping that Reagan would do it right after Grenada in 1973.

On that basis alone, the Bush Doctrine justifies (DEMANDS!) it!

I think we could train cubans for another invasion as long as we provided the air support. We could do it openly and make Cuba shake with fear. But first we'd have to come up with a plan t deal with the thousands of Cuban spies. Probably some combination of death sentence for spies and quick military campaign.
