MISHAHDA, Iraq - A U.S. military helicopter crashed in a field north of Baghdad Monday morning, witnesses and the U.S. military said. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

The helicopter went down in Mishahda, 20 miles north of the capital, an Associated Press reporter at the scene said. The helicopter was in flames on the ground.
The military confirmed that a Task Force Baghdad helicopter crashed around 11 a.m. northwest of Baghdad.
Heavy gunfire was heard at the time of the crash, and white smoke billowed from the helicopter before it burst into flames and slammed into the ground, the AP reporter said. Gunfire was also heard after the crash.
