Filibuster deal: Freepers, please "hold your powder"
n/a | 05/24/05 | jdsteel

Posted on 05/24/2005 5:44:11 AM PDT by jdsteel

Before we explode in disgust about the RINO defectors, please consider this: IF the nominated judges get an up or down vote, we win. If a nominated judge gets blocked by filibuster again, we can still "pull the trigger" on the constitutional option...this time with "betrayed and outraged moderates" leading the way. As much as I want to just respond to this emotionally, I am trying to show patience to see how this pans out over the next month. I also am looking forward to seeing how the DUmmies seeth as judges are nominated. So, please, "hold your powder" but keep your eye on the target.

And suppose the Rhino defectors vote with the Dems and defeat whatever nominees are permitted to squeek through?

It's every soldier's nightmare: to win the war abroad, only to come home to a nation in ruins.

What is this party doing to my country?

I'm now in the market. No more donations.

GOP? Nie wieder.

The DEMS get to "save face" on this deal....and as usual, the Republicans must give another inch.... What is it about a majority that the Republicans just don't understand?

Does anyone believe that the DEMS would have allowed us to "save face" had we been in the minority?

I understand what your saying, but to those of us in flyover country all this means is that we will hold our fire while the Republicans sell us down the river again next time and we're told to suck it up again! No, make no mistake, we had the Democrats on the ropes and we let them go. They will now come back emboldened and beat the snot out of us, and the media will gleefully help them.

The Democrats had NO position. They were in the wrong. They dragged out this whole charade. They held no cards but bluffed their way to stealing the dealer blind.

Do you really think the Democrats wanted to go on record and national TV to argue against Pricella Owens? Do you really think the Democrats wanted to go on record and vote against Janice Brown? Of course they didn't. They were scared to death that they might have had to do that, but thanks to the gang of 7, the Republicans saved the Democrats from their self-destruction.

This is an outrage. We have been sold down the river!

What do you think the target is? Getting these three nominees a vote?

YES

Supreme Court nominees?

YES

Compromising principle of not having the president's nominees get a vote for the first time in American history?

NO.

Getting the up or down vote is the target in this issue. We get that, and still have the constitutional option in our holster, I'm satisfied.

Heard an excellent analogy on Bill Bennett's Morning in America .This "compromise " reminded one participant of a
farmer who heard a fox in the henhouse. He grabbed his gun and rushed to confront the fox. The fox worked out a compromise the agreed not to harm the three chickens that had not escaped the henhouse, then, if the farmer agreed to
not shoot the fox, and would not banish him from the hen- house.I like it. It works. I was reminded how a writer many years before the United States was even a dream to any but God. And that writer spoke of a Jew who told his fellow law makers and Judges in the Sanhedrin that it was
better to sacrifice one man(Jesus) to perserve their status quo. I told Ken Salazar the "compromised"Senators worried about perserving Senate rules as abased by the Democrats have determined to sacrifice principle to preserve their corruption. They should live to see their world turned upside down by the stone they rejected.

I find it even more interesting that even Sen. Frist has stated that he was not part of this deal with the RINOs.....

"The Dems promised to only filibuster in EXTREME CIRCUMSTANCES. "

Yes. And WHAT, pary, constitues "EXTREME" to the likes of Reid, Schumer, Clinton et al???

McCain and his bunch are traitors and idiots - or we are the idiots if we think this is going to help conservative judges get appointed.

"As I see it, we've gained 3 judges we would have gained had the rule been changed, lost 2 we would have otherwise gained, and the filibuster lives, only to be triggered if an "extraordinary" candidate -- i.e., an originalist -- who is nominated by the president, approved by the ABA, and is voted out of committee reaches the Senate floor."

-Levin

We were snookered. All that is left to do now is defeat the RINOS. This deal gave the donks just what they wanted.

If the Reps go back to being the Minority, opps they aready are, then unlike NOW, the MSM will paint the Filibuster as being "BAD" and Reps breaking with 214 year old tradition.

And the LOSER Reps will DESERVE IT!

How about...we get the three most conservative candidates approved for the District Court...

And then we get the opportunity to nominate any of these three to the US Supreme Court under circumstances where the Dems (because they have already said they are worthy) will find it very hard to mount effective opposition????

I hope the Dems soon call an appointment "extreme" and resurrect the filibuster, then, maybe - just maybe - Frist et al will say to the moderates "you tried it your way, now we'll try it my way..."
