A day in the life of President Bush (5/7/05): photos

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President and First Lady arrived in the Netherlands, today, on the first leg of their four-day visit to eastern Europe, Russia and the Republic of Georgia. The main focus of the visit is to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Nazi Germany's defeat.

According to the Associated Press, President Bush "second-guessed Franklin D. Roosevelt," when he said Saturday that the United States played a role in Europe's painful division after World War II. The President said it was a decision that helped cause "one of the greatest wrongs of history" when the Soviet Union imposed its harsh rule across Central and Eastern Europe.

President Bush said the lessons of the past will not be forgotten as the United States tries to spread freedom in the Middle East.

The President spent the day with the leaders of three Baltic republics, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Many in the Baltic countries are still bitter about the Soviet annexation of their countries and the harsh occupation that followed the war for nearly 50 years. Acknowledging that anger and frustration still linger, Bush said that "we have a great opportunity to move beyond the past." His message here, and throughout his trip, is that the world is entering a new phase of freedom and all countries should get on board.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "We will not repeat the mistakes of other generations, appeasing or excusing tyranny, and sacrificing freedom in the vain pursuit of stability," the president said. "We have learned our lesson; no one's liberty is expendable. In the long run, our security and true stability depend on the freedom of others." President George W. Bush in a speech in Riga, Latvia.

Very well said, Republic.

I am convinced that whatever happens from this day forward, President George W. Bush will go down in history as the Liberator of the Opressed.

Except maybe the history books will spell "oppressed" with two "t's" instead of one.

Snugs: Thanks so much for asking the MOD to remove the photo . . . We'll have to keep watch for NightLight in the future!

MJY1288: You and my hubby would get along great -- your basement 'offices' look very similar (although hubby has a few more computers)!

Snugs and MJY1288 (or anyone else who might have the information): Is FoxNews planning to broadcast the President's visit to the cemetery (Netherlands) early tomorrow morning? I THINK I read a quick blurb that indicated they planned to do so at 4 AM EST, but I'm not positive!

I put then there the day your husband Mike gave them to me. I treasure them. It was an honor for me to meet your husband Mike for lunch last year. When he gave those Commemorative Coins, I was speechless. Here he is the one sacrificing so much for all of us, and yet he felt the need to give me those Commemorative Coins. They are my favorite possession!

As usual their website is most unhelpful but it is listing Heartland repeat as 4.00am whether they will interrupt that I do not know but that would only be 6.00am in Holland so that sounds a bit early to me.

I am hoping that Sky News maybe covering it.
